China Travel Visa Question

I appreciate the feedback. It seems that arriving at the airport plenty early is the way to go if we want to use TWOV.
I'm leaning towards getting the visas however. I'm traveling with my wife and 2 kids so there's some value to avoiding hassles at LAX and a long TWOV line at PVG. We also all have a Turkey exit stamp in our passports - just an overnight stay on an AV SAW award (RIP) - but being denied TWOV on the ground at PVG would be an expensive nightmare so perhaps its best just to get the visas before we go.

Flying to China (again) and on Delta for the first time. At no point any DL agent verified my Chinese visa. Is this new?
