A when to book question

I got some good advice from my last question, hope it continues!

I'm based in ATL, but found a much better fare to EZE out of Miami. I'll need to book a second ticket to get to MIA. How soon is too soon to book the ATL-MIA portion? Currently the fares are running $250-$300, which seems high.

Thanks for the advice!

AA is selling at <$100. As you are traveling on separate tickets and it's a micro-haul, I would not even remotely worry about which carrier you fly on the first hop if there is a material savings.

The only advantage to flying on Delta for the ATL-MIA portion is the protection they generally offer in these situations. Also, the thru-check of baggage on DL-DL tickets vs AA-DL tickets.

Sticking with Delta from ATL>MIA will be better for any flight delays, checked luggage and IRROPS.

You don't indicate when you're traveling. ITA Matrix finds DL has ATL-MIA fares as low as $74 from 20 Feb, although they may not be at times/dates that work for your connection.

Thanks everyone. I was leaning towards staying with Delta since they would be handling the International portion. Leaving April 27, returning May 8th. Need a morning flight to MIA (leaving before 11:00), returning after 10:00 AM.
