Two trips with major issues

After 135,000 largely uneventful miles this year, my last two trips have been really problematic.

The first trip had two uneventful legs before the mess started. Original plane from SLC went mechanical and needed a replacement flown in from LAX which of course was late arriving. Then that plane had had a broken fuel gauge on the left wing which took two hours to resolve (not fixed) before we left. Instead of landing about midnight we landed about 4:30AM with a go around due to low visibility. By the time I got to my hotel I was listed as a no-show. The return started with another broken plane needing a replacement with a new flight number ( in the 98xx range) and was late again. Then on approach to SEA we had to do a go around due to a plane still on the runway. The last flight to PSC was delayed a few hours due to late crew.
Next trip again started OK but the next flight had a two hour delay due to late arriving aircraft that then replacing a passenger seat back. First return flight was a few hours late due to mechanical and weather but the connection was delayed due to mechanical issues so I thought I would make it. Upon arriving in MSP, discovered it was cancelled and a new flight number was leaving the next morning which had a slight delay because the crew thought they were deadheading and not flying.I feel for any occasional flyers who would have similar issues.

I was reading your post, <not knowing who posted it> and when I came to this part:

Happy New Year, Pap!

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

If it makes you feel any better, about 2 weeks ago, coming back from London, via AMS and DTW, due to a bunch of "stuff" that kept going wrong at DTW, I was, I think, 8 hours late getting home. Stuff happens.

Nice to be remembered. I know stuff happens and how to roll with it but this much stuff on two trips was really unusual. Did get a $600 voucher to start the first trip so I sort of brought it on myself.

Happy travels in the new year!!

Trips like that help appreciate when things do go right (or at least okay).

Sometimes the whole idea of flinging this big cigar tube through the sky is rather amazing.

I had a couple months of that this spring...every single trip had a cancellation, major delay, etc. Only survived with my bag of FT tricks. Then...smooth all fall/winter. Just push through it and go by the statistics; they are a pretty darn good airline for getting you places.
