Irma is moving away from the Northern Cuba and is already showing signs of rapid intensification. Look for a jump back to Category 4 if not higher later today.

so with TS winds predicted Tuesday and Wednesday in ATL, and the expected schedule alterations.......what tricks do you guys have for "insuring" against not being able to get out of ATL timely on Wednesday?

Justin026 Sep 9, 2017 2:39 pm

Delta is offering $113 one way ATL/JFK/DTW fares on virtually all nonstop flights to and from many Florida cities after the storm passes. These are fully refundable Y fares. Even LAX-TPA is available $113 for the nonstop.

Odd to see main economy fares priced below basic economy fares on the display!

A good service for people that are headed back home or going down to check on damage.

I heard Delta was selling tickets on the additional 747 flights for $400. Is the aircraft being sold as all coach and seating just the luck of the draw?

When I priced out a MCO-DTW 747 flight right after it was announced it was $113 for Y (Full Y-Fare) and $398 for F (A Fare).

Wow, awesome deal.

Will those 747s operate next week? I might do my return from MCO instead of TPA and go through DTW? The web just shows 757s next Tu-We-Th. Never flew D1 on a Delta 747 but envied it from a Y seat going ATL-NRT, this would be the last chance.

Based on current forecasts, Monday afternoon is supposed to be some of the worst of it for Atlanta. They are forecasting wind gusts of 80mph for Monday afternoon. I was supposed to fly out of there at 6PM and changed my routing. Best case, is that you'll have significant delays.

I'm flying LAX-MCO.

I hate to say it, but I would not be shocked if it hit Cat 5 again before making landfall around Tampa. That would be horrible for the area, but I hope the damage is minimal, except for my former employer, of course.

Is Delta still operating with the 747 out of Miami? When do airports shut down?

The 747s went to MCO not MIA. They haven't scheduled anymore at this point. Most South Florida Airports closed last night, MCO closed at 5pm and TPA closes at 8pm.

Roger that. Thanks for clarifying.

We are preparing for the worst now. Hope the full extent of the hurricane does not hit..and it downgrades from a cat 5 to a cat 2.

Sorry for the noob question, but I've never been caught up in a weather waiver before. Scheduled to travel to Alabama on Wednesday.

Is the waiver only for the change fee, or is it also for fare differences within the waiver time period? The language on delta.com seems to say only fees are waived, but on time.money.com there is this:

Delta is waiving fees and extra costs associated with flights to and from Florida, the Bahamas and Cuba scheduled for Sept. 6-17 as long as passengers fly on or before Sept. 30. Change fees will still be waived for flights taken after Sept. 30, but customers may have to pay the difference in price.

I'd like to change to Thursday flights, but don't even want to try to call as I'm sure the phone agents are slammed. And the travel is close enough in time that the fare differences are sizeable. :(

As long as you are travelling before September 30, fare difference will not apply (after that date...it will).

Otherwise nobody would ever be able to afford using the travel waiver ;)

Oh...but it should be noted...99% chance you'll have to call to change this without fare difference. It is "supposed" to let you do it online but it has never worked for me...phone agents change it no problem though (minus the ludicrous hold times)
