Same-day return - When/how to check-in?

It has been years, maybe decades, since I booked a one-day RT. Outbound flight departs at 7:50 AM tomorrow. I successfully checked-in online. Return departs at 4:00 PM.

Delta.com is not offering online check-in. Should I be concerned? When will I be able to check-in?

I do this frequently. I always check in for my return once my outbound flight is done. Usually on my way out of the airport I will check in for my return at one of the kiosks.

I am generally just allowed to check-in 24 hours prior to departure. So you would need to wait until maximum 24 hours before departure to check in for that other flight. So in a few hours you should be good! If anything, you could always check-in for both at the airport

I purposely checked-in for the outbound flight more than 24 hours before the return, thinking that there might be issues if I waited until the check-in window for the return opened.

Oh ok. You should be fine to check-in for the return like you would any other flight.

It's been a while since I have done a same day return but you should be able to check in at a kiosk prior to the outbound leg. A message will appear stating "Other flights are available for check in" or something to that effect. At least it for me last time I did a day trip.

Go to main delta.com page (without logging in). Click the "Check In" drop down box and fill in your itin number and put your destination in the "From Airport" field.
