I live in ATL. I will taking the day off and driving to N.Ga mountains to Clayton, GA.
from the airport, this may be a 1.5-2 hr drive depending on traffic. |

Family and me are heading to Missouri. Flying into STL and then driving south about an hour day of. Original plan was Columbia, but hotels have been booked for months and Airbnb cheap houses are running $500-$1500+ a night.

As posted elsewhere, planning to fly SLC-IDA (Idaho Falls) the day before, and IDA-SLC at 12:42, an hour post-eclipse. Planning to walk to the airport parking lot that morning....

Road gridlock is predicted in many parts of the country. It is not an event that needs tickets, so officials really haven't a clue as to how many people will attempt to reach the path of totality. Cell phone towers expected to be overloaded with calls, tweets, Facebook posts and photos. Bring cash. Credit card networks may be jammed. Gas stations may run dry so keep tanks full. Bring water and food with you.
And although there will be many hours for people to get into place, then once it is done and gone, everyone wants to leave at the same time! Out west, in Idaho and Oregon, it will be the height of the fire season. Emergency crews are worried about packed roads. Be prepared everyone. This is not going to be a drive to the beach. |
The minor league baseball team outside of Salem, Oregon is starting their game at 9:35 am and giving out glasses to watch. Actually, the entire weekend's games will be part of an Eclipse Brewfest.

ATL news reported this morning most hotels in the GA mountains are sold out for that weekend.

Back in June of 1973, a "Concorde" flew at Mach ~2 and got 74 minutes of totality during a solar eclipse. Who needs Mach 6 when we could fly the Concorde, oh wait... :p :cool:
