DL 129 SEA-PEK 07/06 Security Incident

CNN and others reporting that a passenger attempted to force their way into the cockpit of DL 129, bound for PEK from SEA. Individual was restrained and the aircraft returned to SEA. Three injured: two passengers, one crew-member.

Any FTers onboard? I know what I would do if seated in my usual 1A/D (aircraft was a 763).

Flight didn't make it all that far before this incident (I guess that's probably a good thing)

Perhaps it's time for Boeing to add an ejection seat option to commercial aircraft - or an ejection tube a la the Get Smart phone booth.

"A Delta Air Lines flight turned back after takeoff from Seattle to Beijing on Thursday night following a "security incident" in the first class cabin."

When did DL add FC on TPAC routes?

Article looks to have been updated since the OP. Sounds like the passenger attached an FA.

A Delta Airlines Flight turned back after takeoff from Seattle to Beijing on Thursday night following a "security incident" in the first class cabin.

Initial information indicated an unruly passenger attempted to enter the jet's cockpit, according to two people briefed on the incident.

But Port of Seattle Airport spokesman Perry Cooper said the plane turned back after a passenger attacked a flight attendant in the first class cabin. He said the incident took place in the front part of the twin-aisle aircraft, in the first class cabin.

Several passengers stepped in to subdue the alleged attacker, Cooper said.

Three people were injured in the incident aboard Delta flight 129, including one passenger and one flight attendant, according to Cooper.

That was a quick turnaround, given that they would have had to find a replacement FA.

I wonder whether passengers were offloaded so that the aircraft could be searched, given the security incident.

I wonder if they needed an entire new crew b/c the rest of the crew may have timed out? If not, they may have continued on down one FA, since international flights such as this have more FAs than the require minimum.

Good point.

There could also be issues if some/all of the FAs or even cockpit crew were too traumatized by the incident. It would be upsetting to see a colleague be assaulted on the job, but of course reassuring that several passengers jumped up to help.

Hope the FA and other pax involved are ok and only minor injuries.

So that incident ended up causing the flight to depart 7 hours late after the original scheduled time from SEA with an expected arrival after 1am in PEK.

First reports indicated attempt at cockpit invasion. Later corrected by Delta to say not so. Unclear at this point why the 23 year old male from Florida caused a ruckus in FC. Perhaps he was from economy?

Hats off to CNN for improving their aviation content coverage quality, at least they did not report a four-engine Boeing 777 with 129 passengers injured from PEK to SEA diverted with C17 fighter and other escorts.

I see this as weak CNN reporting as Delta does not have First Class on this route.
