I ran into the same problem with a FA as I was catching up on a message from Dovster. I had to stow it as it was too heavy for the seatback

This thread should be nuked (OP should be banned just for starting it) but since we're here already, seeing them at costco doesn't prove "lots of people" actually lug them onto planes. The last time I saw one at costco (approximately 300 years ago) it was the 12v type that had to be plugged into a cigarette lighter, wouldn't really do much good on a plane. Of course, you'll have some other totally unverifiable anecdote about how you personally know someone who mentioned his brother's uncle's former roomate used one once, so you'll dig in your heels and refuse to admit any mistake.

Oh snap, good point. I didn't think about that since I've never used either, or seen one on a plane.
Using total DVD player sales as a guideline, DVD players have only had modest declines in total units sold over last three years. Final point if major electronic stores such as Best Buy still stock them then obviously they are still being sold. |
Slightly off topic, but I'd really like to know what y'all (and it's more than just the OP in my experience) are working on that you can't close your laptops for the taxi-out and take-off or landing and taxi to the gate. Is it Trump's secret plan to defeat IS? Hillary's 2020 campaign strategy? Come on, we're talking what - 15 minutes here. I'm genuinely curious.

Second, f you follow the logic that you can't keep your laptop in the seat back (which most FAs who take the view that you can't use it during takeoff subscribe to) - then you have to wait until the seatbelt sign is turned off once you're in the air - which can take well over 15 minutes. then if you have a window seat, you need to interrupt one or two people to get to overhead bin; and then disturb them a second time once you get back in your seat- which then makes you more reluctant to use the lavatory or stretch legs later on during flight. |

No - it is not that - there is a lot more too it. First, in winter time with de-icing and delays in NYC it can easily be 60 to 90 minutes - even in Rochester last week on the return flight we spent a good 40 min piddling around while waiting for de-icing.
