Great baggage delay experience
Hey everyone,
My mom was supposed to fly LAX-ATL-MHT yesterday but unfortunately was delayed on the ATL-LAX flight DL1227 scheduled for a 12:30 departure. Her bag was tagged for LAX-ATL-MHT. Unfortunately there was a terrible delay where the crew didn't give much information and it was a multitude of reasons from crew rest periods, aircraft door issues and jetway problems in ATL. I called the medallion line and they were able to have her on the last flight to Boston. It's just another hour drive for me but I had to do it for my mom rather than her being stranded in BOS or ATL.
To my surprise, right when they rebooked her final destination, the bag was "expedited" to the new destination to Boston on the bag tracking feature. Is this a new thing where if you change your destination during your trip, the computer will know to reroute the bag(s) automatically? The bag was retagged in Atlanta somehow. Excellent service. Back in the 2000s, if the bag was tagged from city X, it will always go to city X no matter what, even if it had to be on a flight the following day.
Kudos to delta for expediting the luggage to the new destination automatically! No kudos for the mis connect and headache of the delay, but it happens, no worries.

I did a SDC an earlier flight from ATL-PBI and had a checked bag (rarely have one) and they were able to get it switched to the earlier flight in a couple of key strokes.
Nice feature.
