IAH-KRK ?
Can someone with gold status please let me know:
I am looking for a flight IAH-AMS-KRK. When I try and book with cash this works just fine, but when I book with miles it forces me into IAH-DET-AMS-KRK.
I currently have the option to get Amex delta gold card, and get auto upgraded to gold status. Does anyone think gold status would give me the more direct route without DET?
thanks in advance,
-Beck

No. Even Diamond status <supposedly> doesn't give access to additional award seats, but, even when it did years ago, I don't think it worked for partner airline flights like KLM. I'd say it's likely that the KLM flight IAH/AMS award availability just isn't there.
That said, there's a CC that gives automatic GOLD status?!?

Oh contraire, I have an Amex offer for delta gold card with 6 months of Gold status.
Thank you all for your reply. I have about 260K Amex points I want to use up but have no where to use them out of IAH. I might as well just book United Flights via Amex paying with points. The other option is to get home depot gift cards for tools and such. Very highly frowned upon by the point community

Although
IAH-DET-AMS is delta opperated
AMS-KRL is via KLM
IAH-DET-AMS-KRK is acceptable via points for business class for 105,000 miles.

Not to parse words, but . . . .
It's either a Delta flight, or a KLM flight. If it's operated by KLM, it's a KLM flight. It may have Delta <codeshare> flight number, but it's not a Delta flight!
So, if it's a KLM flight, Delta can only offer award seats that KLM makes available to them.

I didn't realize this was a thing either, so I Googled for "amex 6 months gold medallion" and found a couple hits for the temporary Gold offer; also a blog post where in the comments someone mentioned having trouble getting AMEX/Delta to honor a Silver Medallion signup bonus (which is less valuable anyway since you get most of the practical benefits of Silver with a Delta-branded card already). So caveat emptor as always...

It's French, "au contraire" -- doubly funny for easily-amused minds like me because Au is the chemical symbol for gold
