If done slowly, that could delay the flight.

Yes, it could. When you go to TSA.gov, first, you hafto choose which type of scissors you have, to see if they're considered contraband or not! This could take a while!

craft scissors
nail scissors
scissors (smaller than 4 inch blades)
grooming scissors
cuticle scissors
scissors (larger than 4in blades)
hair cutting scissors (smaller than 4in blades)
hair cutting scissors (larger than 4in blades)
scissors with blunt ends (less than 4in blades)
scissors with blunt ends (larger than 4in blades)
cross stitch (scissors with blades longer than 4in)
cross stitch (scissors with blades smaller than 4in)
manicure scissors (less than 4in blades)
scissors (4in or smaller blades)
nail cutter (scissors with blades less than 4in)
sewing scissors (blades shorter than 4in)
sewing scissors (blades longer than 4in)
small blunt scissors (blades less than 4in)
embroidery scissors (4in or smaller blade)
tweezers and manicure scissors (blades less than 4in)
kids scissors (blades less than 4in)
manicure scissors (blade less than 4in)
hair cutting scissors
eight inch scissors
bandage scissors
small scissors

Good news. I don't have a problem with YBYL as a policy--it's that it is completely inconsistent. In fact I have never heard a gate agent announce it.

The F upgrade is not really that important to me so I typically just board anyway, because I'd rather make sure I have overhead space than wait around for an unlikely upgrade. It has happened many times (against policy before now, apparently) that I have gotten the upgrade onboard. Most recently on MSP-SFO, five of us did.

This reminds me of the time security at NRT measured the blade on a tiny pair of manicure scissors I had. They used some very precise looking measuring instrument--not a simple ruler--and several people had to look to verify the length reading. It was a lot of fuss for scissors with about a one inch blade when anything with blades up to four inches should have been allowed.

BTW, can't a rock be used as a weapon too?

A TSA search for "rock" turns up this list:

bottle rockets
crock pot
crockpot
a crock pot
glass crock pot and cover
Pop Rocks® candy
rock salt
small rocks
rock jewelry
salt rock lamp

So, I guess a rock is OK.

edited to add . . . . Small rocks - shows as ok.

I think we're all aware of this and it doesn't answer the question.

Not really. There's been concern expressed here about the fact that people drop off of the GIDS upgrade list when they board.

Seems like a new mess. Worse than before and more confusion
In the 8-10 times I've been pulled from the back, they have always gone by the original upgrade list. I'm sure they will continue to do it this way.

But is there any rule about whether a FA is supposed to upgrade #1 from the original list on board or upgrade #10 standing at the gate who is now #1 according to the list passengers can view at the gate?

I think, the best that I can figure <unfortunately> from this slight change is, that, previously, a GA could be reprimanded for UGing from Y onboard <according to a Widgets post earlier>. Now, it's still ambiguous as to what the GA is required to do, but, a GA can't be reprimanded.

This is just going to, again, be worse than EVER!

Before it was a rule sometimes broken. Now, it will according to Widgets confuse even more AND if someone is standing at the gate and the GA pulls from the OLD list the one at gate as part of #TeamBoardLast can photo and SHOW they were #1 on the list and gripe.

Oh, don't forget Widget said, if ther is time, so again if #TeamBoardLast and gripe and wait as long as possible still best shot at last seat upgrade.

Again I hate this change. Make it a fast rule or not! Either pull or don't. Not half way sorta kinda when it works or don't when not!
