[Developing] Security labour (strike) issues this week at AMS.

Security labour (strike) issues this week at AMS. Delta is already sending alerts.

Be aware if ex-AMS or transiting with security clearance.

Noting has been confirmed yet. Some are saying strike this weekend. Might be from Friday or Saturday.

We shall see. I have have not been following very closely in the Dutch media. A friend said that they Schiphol is going to court to prevent the labour action.

Seems like Delta is being proactive, since this announcement was received today, based on a flight AMS-BOS for tomorrow.

Security screeners should fall under the same category as police, and shouldn't be allowed to strike.

Maybe the Dutch saw the TSA work stoppage and decided to join in.

Today all went well with security (situation normal)
The union (FNV) released a press release today in dutch, freely translate it says (sorry for the google translate at certain parts);

This week at the airport the security guards will start with an action for the first action after the expiry of the ultimatum to Schiphol and security . On a yet to be determined time the security guards will hold a short work stoppage . Besides this Additionally they will inform travellers regularly about the How and why of the Actions .

Travellers suffer as little as possible from the Actions

FNV Security selects actions which approach does justice to the principles : send a signal to the board, and as little as possible suffer for the traveller/voyager and no additional Risks if it comes to safety . Additionally the approach will be build up in time: Action frequency and / or duration being raised if it takes longer when Schiphol doesn't come with a satisfactory answer . Naturally every effort will be made to perform the actions orderly.

Might be best for travellers that have to go through to security the comming days/weeks to be there on time. If you cut it short and the unions decide to have a 'short' work stoppage you might miss your flight.
Please also keep in mind that over time those actions most likely will become more longer/more frequent etc.
And afaik the unions have to warn Schiphol in advance (but don't know how far in advance)

Edit: Besides screening pax they also screen crew and work at the bagagge department. So they also might 'target' your crew or luggage.

When did the requirement become that one must be at the gate in AMS for DL flights by T-50? The standard requirement for DL international flights is to be at the gate or on board by T-30.

I think it's all about how you read it. "Be at the gate" is a general reference. The T-30 is a, if you haven't boarded (or we haven't scanned your boarding pass) we can give away your seat. At least, that's how I see it.

Is T-30 a "hard and fast" rule globally? Or just ex-USA international? I never really paid very much attention.

AFAIK T-30 is stated as a rule for all international DL flights, including the transborder Canadian flights.

However, my impression is that often it's not enforced. I almost always see D1 passengers boarding after T-30. It's also not unusual for the lounge (I'm thinking of the F/G SC at MSP especially) to not announce the flight until about T-30, which means that leaving then implies getting to the gate around T-25 and maybe up to the scanner by T-20.

The KLM lounges at AMS used to always have the T-30 reminder on a sign at the reception desk. I've also seen ticket folders and stickers on boarding passes reminding people of the rule. However, AMS ahs the annoying habit of changing the scheduled departure times on their airport monitors to move the departure up by 10-20 minutes. When I've complained about the resulting panic, they say that they do it deliberately to encourage passengers to hurry to the gate.

BTW, do you forecast that security slowdowns at AMS will be a problem this summer, after whatever happens this week?

KLM will allow you to arrive at AMS at T-45 and check-in (also for Delta operated flights) at one of their luggage drop off points. After that they might refuse you as you won't make it on time.
With th actuall doors opening at T-40 boarding is still in full progress at T-30 and at T-25 plenty of pax are still have to board here at Schiphol, especially if it is a big bird and they use only one door (this seems sop at AMS)

The first action (work stoppage will most likely 1 hour), people will miss their flight especially if they do it at rush hour. Before they have worked away that backup log you are 2 hours further.

Pretty sure we will see several actions the comming weeks, not all of the unions are particpating though...

I had the same email over this past weekend for my connection in AMS. Fortunately the connection was a breeze. Good luck to all!

Connecting pax should be fine in most cases, no security involved for them (only if they arrive from Asia & Africa etc)

Update : Within the past 30 minutes. My wife reported "5 min thru security and passport control." I am guessing she DID NOT use Privium for immigration since she was with my daughter.

Departures 2, Delta/KLM, AMS-BOS
