Will we make this connection?

Delta just changed our flights. We are flying YYZ-DTW-AMS They just changed our YYZ & DTW flights.
Now our YYZ flights lands @ 7:05
our DTW flights departs @ 8:09
My husband thinks we will be ok, but I'm not so sure. We are First/business class so we can get off the YYZ flight quickly.

This should be easy, especially if your first flight arrives on Concourse A. If it's a small RJ, going down through the psychedelic tunnel takes a bit more time. I'd be more concerned if the times were all a couple hours earlier as DTW can get bad late afternoon thunderstorms in the early summer.

I was concerned about getting our checked bags, and going through security and customs. (Unless we don't do that?)

You will clear US immigration and customs at YYZ before you board your flight there. At DTW, all you will do is proceed directly to your next flight, without any formalities or security.

Note that this means that you must get to YYZ earlier than for a domestic flight. The cutoff deadline to check in and drop bags is probably T-60.

Yeah, we plan on getting there pretty early. Thanks!

Oh yeah, you can make it! You just can't let loose and wonder around. Stay focus on getting to the other flight and you will make it - I've done DTW transfer with <1hr before. Not a pleasant experience but doable.

I feel a lot better about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy that my husband was right, but I'm happy about making the flight. 😬

As you are traveling in F/J class, you would also have privileges at the KLM Crown Lounge in YYZ, which is shown as "situated opposite Gate C32 in Terminal 3 (take the lift to the AT floor). Opening hours: 08.30 AM - 11.00 PM"

According to maps, terminal 3 has two "fingers", one with the A gates, the other with the B and C gates. Delta's flights appear to go out of the A gates (today they used A6, A13 and A14). It isn't clear whether you can access the B and C gates from the A gate area, which is after the Canada/USA "pre-clearance" checkpoint.

Have a good trip!!!

They will not. Different terminal. For all intents and purposes, once airside, they are in the U.S. and trapped in one small (rather mundane) wing of YYZ.

Well that's disappointing. We were hoping to get to use a lounge.

You might have time to go to a lounge briefly in DTW if your inbound flight arrives at an A gate.

I've connected through DTW many times last year from YYZ and you'll have more than enough time to get to your gate within half an hour. I've walked from the very end of B to the very end of A and did not have any problems. Lots of moving sidewalks at DTW.
