CVG a ghost town

Haven't been through CVG since DL pulled it's hub, but geez! It's like every gate is empty, some don't even have jetways. 1:30 Saturday afternoon, all the shops are closed except for those in the center of the concourse. Sky Club empty, Thai soup empty also. I asked and they brought some more out, about 2 inches worth. Looks like there are less than 10 flights left for the day, including one to Paris.

CVG a ghost town

Truly sad. It was one of my favorite airports - and SkyClub!

I haven't checked recently, but, I heard that they have eliminated flights to/from PIT, as well.

The last couple of times I was thru there, I remember taxiing past that one shuttered terminal thinking that it looks more like a movie set than an airport!

Ill be there the 19th, I fully expect to see tumbleweeds, gunslingers and an occasional semi-shuddered saloon

Actually DL still calls CVG a hub. The last time a looked they still had over 70 flights per day.

I'm too lazy to look for it right now, but there is a thread from a year or so ago that shows pictures of Concourse C abandoned. It's worth finding and looking through the pics.

I believe part of the deadness there today is that it's Saturday.

Today: 12 departures after 12 noon, and the last one is at 5:30pm.
Tomorrow (Sunday): 46 departures after 12 noon, last one is 8:40pm.

It is Saturday. CVG's schedule is drastically reduced on Saturday. All hubs are reduced on Saturdays.

Although I'm sure it's nothing like what it once was, DL still operates well over 80 flights a day on weekdays as well as their daily CDG flight. CVG traffic has actually rebounded significantly this year due to increased LCC competition driving down ticket prices. Since around late last year they've consistently posted double-digit passenger increases every month.

Why would DL leave? Who would step in? Perhaps Allegiant, WN? DL still has 80+ flts at CVG.

FROM THE WEB:

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport – Prior to the merger with Northwest Airlines, Cincinnati was the second largest hub for Delta. Since the merger, service has been drastically cut, mainly due to its proximity to the Detroit hub, as well as the shutdown of Comair, but still officially remains a hub.
We are talking about a Saturday.
