Interesting answer to UG question

Waiting for a flight home and my DL app isn't working, so I asked the GA where I stood on the UG list and if I should wait to board if on the bubble.

Her response:
- Nobody is getting an upgrade today
- We need an FC seat for a FA
- If there is a no show, it would go back to whoever they had to kick out of FC

Redcoat was standing next to her the whole time and said nothing. After I pressed again, she still refused to provide any information about the UG list.

Will be interesting to see what happens at boarding, but while I'm waiting figured I'd see if anyone here could think up what might be happening here.

Seems like a simple case of a broken, or inop FA jump seat to me.

Indeed, turned out to just be a broken FC seat.

However, if I get a DL survey, this GA will not be getting high marks for just about anything. Incredibly poor/rude attitude through the whole boarding process...worst I've seen from a DL employee in quite a while.

I wonder why they would say they needed an FC seat for an FA, if it was a broken FC seat, as opposed to a jumpseat?

Exactly why I posted. The curt response, unwillingness to provide UG information, and FA comment combined to be quite confusing.

All the FA needed to say was "There's a broken FC seat and you are #X for zero (or -1) seats, so it doesn't look good right now."

Still no clue about the FA line. Seat had a sign in it and nobody sat in it the whole flight. This was on a CR9 and both FAs were snug in their jump seats for takeoff and landing.

I might be wrong on this but I was under the impression that from time to time FA are entitled to J. An example of this is that if a crew is needed at the last minute to transfer to another airport then have to work a long flight sometimes Delta has them fly J as they can attempt to sleep or be as comfortable as possible for their long day.
