GM vs PM This Year for 2015 Program

Just looking to see if my logic is correct on this....

2014 will be the first year that I have not hit DM since the program started, mostly because I took the summer off to play golf and was not working.

Right now it looks like I'm going to end 2014 with about 70K miles and about $10K in spend...so really no shot at DM, could get to PM with a good MR but I'm thinking I'm better off at GM...here's why.

Assuming next year my spend is back to normal in the $13K range with the 20K miles of rollover I would get this year at Gold I would have 124K miles at the end of the year and that does not account for the additional mile/$ I would get once I hit PM part of the way through the year.

If I work to get PM this year, assuming no significant rollover at $13K in spend i would end up with only 117K miles.

So if my math is right I'm better off starting the year at GM than working to get to PM...understanding that I would be farther down the upgrade list but I'm OK with that in order to get back to DM easier.

Thoughts,

Nick

don't know how/if these facts change your calculus:

(1) that "additional mile/$" at PM (and the additional additional 2 m/$ at DM) only count toward RDM, not MQM
(2) next year the MQD spend thresholds for all levels are going up
Silver -- $3,000 (was $2,500)
Gold -- $6,000 (was $5,000)
Platinum -- $9,000 (was $7,500)
Diamond -- $15,000 (was $12,500)

I'm afraid you are confused. MQM earning will still be based on flown mileage next year. It is only RDM earning that is changing to be spend based.

Exactly why I posted, now I understand.

That said I think I'm still better off starting with 20K in the bank at GM.

Also, according to the website the spends are not increased next year, see link.

That chart is for 2014 MQD calendar year spend in order to earn 2015 program year status. The amount you need to spend in calendar year 2015 for 2016 program year status is increasing. See the following page and scroll down --
