Limit on membership miles trx to dl

Yesterday, I received a letter from AMEX telling me that, effective 01/01/15, I can only transfer 250K Membership Miles to my DL account per year. I presently have north of 600K MMs and earn about 250 - 300K MMs annually.

My wife and I like to take at least one "big" trip annually, flying first/business (this year, South Africa with a SkyMile cost of about 360K total).

Any recommendations as to what I should do with my current MM balance? Transfer it all now? Transfer some now? Use the MMs to buy something on Amazon?

This is a big dilemma - I am stuck with as well. I usually transfer north of 250K miles a year to DL. On one hand, I have no issue transferring a boatload to DL this year (and use my DL card more than my regular AMEX). HOWEVER, with the new mileage buckets rolling out -- how do we know that every single award won't be at the level 5 ripoff ??

For the future, think about dividing your spending and getting separate AmEx accounts for you and wife so that you each can transfer 250,000 MR points to DL miles annually. The disadvantage would be that if you are DM or PM and wife isn't (or vice versa), award tickets from miles on one account wouldn't have the fee-free change/redeposit privilege.
