Waitlisted vs Requested
I am a Diamond who just used a Global Upgrade for DL417 LAX to SYD that was actually cleared immediately weeks ago, while my return request stated "system wide upgrade requested. On my outbound, a series of events for my connections caused a reissue of my ticket while I was en route to LAX and when I got there, I discovered that my return flight now says "upgrade not available" as it does without a GU request; however, there is now a segment underneath that has my name, business class listed, "no seat assigned", and then says "wait listed" - any idea what this is and which is better? I asked the Diamond Line and the Skyclub in LA and they both said the certificate number is still in and I am listed, just not cleared. I have never seen that phantom segment like that. By the way, there are 16 seats open still in Business.
Thanks for the advice.

You're actually seeing the 'old' method of how mile/certificate upgrade requests were displayed in your itinerary. It used to show the original confirmed segment, along with a waitlisted one for OP.
Some point earlier this year, it changed to start showing a generic 'systemwide upgrade requested' for the original segment instead of the separate waitlisted one, although I've also still had some itineraries that showed the old method or a combination of the two.

The original segment says System Wide Upgrade Requested.
Got 4 segments for 2 certificates showing this!
Every segment has at least 12-16 seats open/ available.
Hopefully DL RM will release a seat in each segment as soon as possible.
Travel on all four segments on 2 different round trips are in November'14.
