Baggage Transfer

Got a question for a very-tentative flight next summer.

I'll be flying home VS/EDI-LHR, DL/LHR-DTW. I know I'll need to change terminals and re-clear security, and I've got that time all planned out, but: will I need to gather my checked bag and re-check it, or will it be automatically transferred for me? I'm assuming it would be automatic, because DL and VS are joint venture (or whatever the right term is...), but I've never actually flown on a multiple-airline itinerary before, so I want to be sure.

It'll transfer without any action. You'll change terminals so make sure you've got enough time to do so, but otherwise there's no problems.

PS You're bags will be transferred because DL and VS have an interline agreement to transfer bags. You could have them transfer to a non-Skyteam/VS partner, but you'd need to provide proof of a reservation on the other airline. Helpful for future travels.

well, it will transfer as long as it's tagged to transfer, if it's only tagged to lhr, it will only go to lhr.

Of course, but the way the OP stated the question I think he was only asking if he had to pick it up, like in the US when transferring. Also it sounds like this is one reservation, thus VS should tag it without asking all the way to the US on the DL codeshare for VS.
