Hi,
I am a new member and want to learn how to start earning miles. Is getting a Delta credit card the right first step?

The first step would be planning your travel. How much do you travel. Which class?

What are you planning as long term goals, status, free domestic tickets, free international tickets, something else?

Sorry, I couldn't resist this sarcastic response.

I would recommend getting a Skymiles account first.

Welcome to FT.

This. Once you've decided if you'll fly more than a few times on Delta, then open a Skymiles account. No sense in opening an account only to put a few hundred miles in it and never redeem them.

I would suggest that you READ this forum for a few months, and THEN start posting with what will then be well informed questions. The starting point you pose above is way too vague.

And when you start posting, try to jump into existing relevant threads. If you must start a new one, use a more descriptive title.
