As this is about a Delta flight, let's move this over to the DL forum. Thanks! /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator

Just a quick gander at flight aware shows that there is a 763 airborne from SEA to make up the rescue flight.

No injuries... 167 passengers + 11 crew aboard.

DL 9932 on its way to pick them up.

Anchorage Daily News says it was an indication of a possible engine problem that caused the divert. http://www.adn.com/2013/10/30/314971...-tokyo-to.html

VERY small airport. I was there last year when a flight to STG was diverted due to weather. Small waiting area for about 50 people max, restroom, water fountain. No TSA or security there. In fact, flights to CDB don't even have security in ANC before departure. You could walk into town in 5 minutes, but it is not much of a town! Not all too far from Dutch Harbor/Unalaska in the Aleutian Islands.

Surprisingly enough, that airport has a 10k foot runway.

Do flights regularly divert to Cold Bay? I've never heard of the place, but even the name sounds scary.

Not really surprising. It was a military airport back in the day, so has the third longest runway in AK. Apparently a couple of flights a year divert here.
