MQD Calculation Spreadsheet

Hi all

I put together a quick and dirty spreadsheet to calculate (or recalculate) the MQD posted to my account.

I discovered that several complicated itineraries, mostly international flights and IROP-ed trips may or may not reflect accurately on the activity page. I figured I would start reporting the discrepancies now rather than in 2014 when they really count. Hopefully DL figures out what's causing the inaccurate posting and fixes it by then. I also learned how Delta applies the rules to reflect the MQD spend and build the spreadsheet off of that. Here is what I know:

1) MQD are allocated per segment distance based on the total base fare and trip distance
2) YQ and YR, if applicable, are applied per segment and in the same ration as the base fare MQD
3) The base fare is the sum of all fares in the fare construction line on the ticket receipts. YQ and YR are reported in total
4) In an open jaw scenario, the allocation per segment is based on total airfare, not the fare per direction (e.g. 1200 for NYC-MAD and 1400 for FRA-NYC is 2600 allocable base)
5) Great circle mapper is awesome. But we knew that.

If you are interested, feel free to open, tinker, and save for your enjoyment. I input an example trip to illustrate how the posting should work. Use the yellow cells only.

Also, feel free to merge with the main MQD thread.

I salute the OP for reverve-engineering Delta's MQD calculation. However, if MQD's are mis-allocated per segment (but are correct in total), isn't that only a problem if the trip extends over January 1 -- with MQD's in two different years?

But wait! It does make a difference according to the OP if a trip isn't completed because of IRROPS. I guess we have to use his spreadsheet to claim Original Routing Dollars if a trip is interrupted.

Dammit! It guess Delta could not have made MQD's any more complicated if they tried!

It's also potentially an issue if you have a segment on a non-MQD earning flight, such as the now legendary Group 4 carriers.

"You'll receive MQDs for base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges for Delta tickets purchased and flown. You'll also earn MQDs for flight spend on Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 partner airlines that are ticketed through a Delta channel (the ticket number will begin with "006")."

ie: Just because you're on 006 stock doesn't mean you'll earn MQDs. MQDs, so simple and easy to understand!

Wow I thought all 006 stock was earning MQDs. I did assume it would be by segment, which if you read your receipt breakdown will let you know what/ how you will earn.

Thanks and good points y'all I suppose if you have a 006 'group 4' segment on your ticket, you would be able to subtract the respective MQD for it...

As for the 'as long as total dollars post, i am fine' point, I ran into three instances where one flight would credit, but the other wouldn't. Once was IROP and exchanged to a paper coupon and twice was regular ops... with no good reason for non-posting... this prompted the whole exercise I wanted to make sure that whatever did post was accurate and whatever did not post had a precise number with it
