It was good while it lasted! An Ode to FO

When I went to check to see how many MQM's I needed to keep my little status I realized they were all gone as of Jan first, and my trip to Mexico next month would not let me keep it for another year. Sigh. I thought it rolled over at the end of Feb but I digress.
As much as everyone .....es about silver status I loved it, though I had nothing to compare it to! I mean I got free checked bags/(now bag), I never had to sit in the back of the bus, and I did get a few upgrades!
This trip to Mexico will be my last flight as an FO and then I will go back to just being a skymiles member Well, it was good while it lasted. So people enjoy what you have!

If you were short <10k MQM, you could buy them and apply it to 2012 qualification.

Give Yourself The Gift Of MQMs

Still a little short of Diamond, Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion status for 2013?

Through January 31, 2013, you may buy up to 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) that will post to your 2012 MQM balance and apply toward 2013 Medallion status.

I agree... any status is better than no status - and it's worth a few bucks to keep it. Look for a cheap MR or something to make sure you earn it for 2014 (if purchasing MQMs isn't your bailiwick).

The rollover occurs in early January (about the 2nd or 3rd). FO status, or any medallion status for that matter, runs through the 28th/29th of February.

I've said it before and I'll probably say it many times again:

FO status is the bottom of the totem pole, and you're rewarded accordingly, but at least you're on the totem pole.

Yea, I am <10K short but it is 7k and over 700 dollars isn't in the cards right now to keep the status. At least I get two free bags for my Mexico trip!

Join the club. This will be the first time since well, I can't remember- at least 1988, that I won't have any status with Delta. Loss of job, new low-wage job, no money for travel, not able to spend the 25k on my Skymiles AMEX, well, I'm back to no status state. But, I'll at least get a little somethin' with my card - the free bags, the "priority" boarding...

Since I'm now back to a kettle, am I banned from the site???

No status does not necessarily equal a kettle...tends to be mentality regardless of status (or lack thereof).

I have to be a January quarterback, but you should have checked the rules toward the end of last year to avoid the January surprise of no status and no rollover.

OTOH, if you have enjoyed FO and especially if your travel patterns lead to upgrades, you should seriously consider buying 10,000 MQMs by the end of January, which would give you FO for 12 more months and over 3,000 rollover. It's not yet too late to do this.
