So, if I reached GM by segments will my miles over 25,000 roll over? How is that handled? This is the first time I made GM with segments instead of miles.

Bummer. I kind of figured something like that would happen. I am guessing this will also put me farther down the upgrade list.
As long as I still get the other GM/Sky perks (checked bags, drink tix, seat choices for me and companion, phone service...) it'll still be better than when I dropped to SM a few years ago.

No. For a GM, you can only roll over the miles in excess of the miles req'd to reach GM (50K). Since you didn't earn at least 50K miles, and qualified instead by segments, you have no miles to roll over.

Maybe you are thinking that your current MQM balance is some type of tiebreaker in the upgrade process which it is not. Don't feel bad, I will finish the year with 141 segments and rollover zero.

At any rate, I am glad that Delta does consider many things in the upgrade order scheme, and I often wish hotels did it the same way.

Wow, my segments are only about 70. No, I wasn't thinking the current MQM balance makes a difference. I was thinking the MQMs earned for the year had something to do with my placement in the GM line though--like someone qualifying with more miles has higher placement in the GM line than someone who qualifies with segments...

Not sure what you mean about hotels. Generally, you can qualify for hotel status based on either number of nights or stays, and some let you achieve status based on a points system. Sounds similar to airlines to me, no?

Fortunately, MQM balance has nothing to do with placement so this helps seg fliers. OTOH, someone who reaches GM because they max out on the AmEx DL Plat and Reserve cards (earning 50K MQM's) is sitting right next to you in status while possibly flying zero segs. Actually they may be a shade above because Reserve is one of the tiebreakers.
