Upgrade Question

Forgive my stupidity in asking this question, but this is the first year I have been above FO, and I was wondering when if ever I should see my upgrade clear? The way I understand the upgrade process at 3 days out I am "supposed" to be able to clear for an upgrade at GM, is that realistic, or should I expect to ask/see this if I am lucky at the gate? I am under the 3 day mark now, and still on upgrade requested.

There are numerous threads devoted to this topic. The bottom line is that the timing of the upgrades is highly dependent on the route, not necessarily the calendar.

For instance, I recently flew MSP-ATL-PIT. The upgrade for the ATL-PIT leg cleared five days before the flight. The upgrade for the MSP-ATL leg cleared one hour before the flight.

Location, location, location.

Very true. As a GM, you could clear anywhere from 4 days out to at the gate. It is extremely variable.

Generally, I don't even see upgrades as a GM. The only times I see upgrades nowadays is when I can pull enough flights to squeak into PM for the year. And even then they're at the gate.

RRDD is right. I'm a DM and had had my upgrade clear several times this year around an hour before the flight.

It depends on the flight, route, seats available and how heavy the flight is with other Medallion members.

My approach is "if I get upgraded, excellent. If not, I don't care as I bought a coach ticket."

And dont fall for the "just because there are F seats available that you missed your upgrade" logic that people seem to get into around here because there are a multitude of reasons why F seats might be open including FCM or more medallions requesting upgrades than F seats

Also does anyone know if I split the PNR on an upcoming reservation with someone with no status will they be able to stay in the economy comfort seat with me, or will it kick them out of there seat to one that is not economy comfort or preferred seats?

If there is an a/c change, they may lose the EC seats if the PNR is split...some have been successful getting them put back into EC seats (with split/different PNR) via @deltaassist

Same as above - it all depends. As an FO, I've had a few upgrades clear at the window, a few clear at the gate, and more than a few not clear.
