newbie question: Does delta allow free stopovers on domestic award travel?

I have a newbie question: Does delta allow free stopovers on domestic award travel?

I tried to book an award ticket:
DAL---ATL(stopover)---LGA(destination)---ATL(layover, <12hours)---DAL.
I made sure that each segment is in low. The system priced the ticket for 37,500 miles.

I called delta reservation. The representative told me that delta allow one free stopover for international travel. For domestic travel, delta also allow one stopover, but it is not free. You have to pay more miles. Is it true?

Thanks for help!

You have to make sure that your layover in ATL is less than 4 hours. Anything over 4 hours is considered a stopover. So if the stop in ATL on your return trip is over 4 hours, then you basically have 2 stopovers in your itinerary.

I have had success at getting one stopover on a domestic DL award without an additional surcharge. As mentioned above, anything > 4 hours constitutes a stopover on a domestic itinerary.
