Recently on a JFK-SFO, I volunteered for a VDB. The gate agent told me she was giving my seat away to someone and as I was near the gate, I talked to the person she gave it to. Right before the door closed, she said actually she didn't need me, gave me back my original BP, and told me that she would make room for my carryon, and move the other passenger back to the back.

did you move with or without a boarding pass to the 17E seat?
that said... NO WAY i would have taken 17E. NO FREAKING WAY Throw me off the plane, whatever... Quick chat with the Captain of the plane in a civil tone probably would have fixed this - i made the mistake of "giving up" my up front seat while onboard - ONCE. She never brought me the promised boarding pass --- and certainly never gave me any miles like she promised in my case as well.... hell, i wonder if this is the same GA (??) Without a boarding pass that reflected my original seat, I would NEVER - EVER move. Don't care if the plane is delayed or not. Matter of fact, regardless of what Delta's T&C's say, once I am seated on the plane with a valid/scanned boarding pass reflecting my seat... pretty sure you can call the cops to get me to move. Never again will I take the walk of shame because some stupid GA screwed up. d +1 |

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but I agree with the list of priorities and therefore they should have either let the OP stay in his F seat or given him his original seat back.

We agree. But the list of priorities is such that closing the door on time trumps.

Thank the air marshal in 2B for their service? |

The person in 4F had not boarded. How hard would it have been to change his seat (back) as his boarding pass was being scanned ?
It requires people skills. And a variance to the on-time departure mandate that allows it w/o personnel score-keeping. |

Thanks - that was my point. Stuff like the mistake on the upgrade happens. But when I was reasonable and immediately vacated the 1st class seat, I got kinda shafted for being such a nice guy (middle seat at the back rather than my original bulkhead window). And then the promised stingy 5K voucher never materialized. They talk a lot about how much they like their frequent flyers. Talk is cheap.
No idea why the 5K didn't come through but that may be a blessing. Personally can count on one hand the number of complaints filed with DL but this was certainly one of them. A complaint in writing does far more than a rant on FT. DL's response was VERY generous. With RDM inflation pretty rampant, you may even do better than I did. Good luck. |
so just chiming in. this too has happened to me, not a pleasant experience definitely. I agree that they should have give the OP his original seat and made the other person move to the middle seat BUT - just a lil perspective (and again, it's happened to me so i know what it's like)- the flight time from IND to MSP is about an 1:45. 5000 miles (roughly NYC-SF0) R/T seems a very fair offer. 5,000 miles and I TOO agree that you deserve an explanation but folks let's remember that several ppl in Colorado died simply going to a movie a lil over a week ago. My point? nobody died b/c you were in a middle seat. let's just move onto the next FC flight on DL. seriously?!

I don't board and they delay the flight while they pull the luggage I told them I checked, causing them to take a late which none of the staff want to be responsible for. I say I lost my luggage slip..but it's on the plane..send it to me when you find it..and they realize it is better just to get me the seat I want all around!:D

Why is it so many of y'all miss the mark on these issues? This does not have to do with rules, or contracts, or big airlines/little me... this comes down to how a customer is treated. In this case, the customer was treated poorly... and what appears to be a loyal customer at that...
