Open-jaw / stopover limitations

Hi there,

I am attempting to book SAT-NYC [stop] JFK-MAD-JFK. I found low-level availability and put the JFK-MAD-JFK on hold. I then called to add the SAT-JFK low-level on at the beginning, but the agent said that would double the miles because SAT-NYC is less miles than JFK-MAD. This doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone help? I previously had a JFK-TPA leg tacked on months after returning from MAD, and that worked beautifully.

Thanks in advance.

Agent is clueless. Fare components would be SAT-MAD and MAD-JFK. You need SAT-JFK to be shorter than each of those, which it is. Take another spin at agent roulette.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I called back and got the flight added.
