Why? He could've purchased 2 seats in that "wide open" cabin. Or...is this what the OP was hoping would happen and it backfired? Hmmmm...

Actually, he did purchase two tickets in that cabin. I think anyone with high status would hope they would get upgraded... hell, I would... I think the word you were looking for here was expected and I just did not get that from what I read.

..yet beyond all of this, the facts (as we know them at least) remain that it was wide open up there, so he was not really bothering anyone... and as someone who flew NRSA for many years, BE is a huge privelge and as long as the paying pax are not doing horrible things to you or the airplane, protocol is to smile and thank CO Woolman's desk that you are sitting there....

...and, beyond any of this... he had sick kids... dude had his hands full...

Excerpt from OP's deleted post:

..... all of a sudden there was an announcement as we were pretty much in the middle of the North Pacific: medical help was needed in the last row of the economy cabin. I wanted to retract my head like a turtle into its shell, hoping that there would be someone else on board who could help. Got up, looked back, but nobody was walking there. Put my son in the seat, went to the back. Not sure how to describe the purser’s facial expression: “you again?” or “hell, no, not you!” or something like that. She quickly regained her composure realizing why I was there. I asked what was going on and how I could help. Fortunately, the situation was not very serious, took the vitals and checked the meds that the person was taking. The pax who did not feel well, the FAs, and the purser were appreciative and grateful.

For all your talk of shenanigans, you may be the most sane and stable person on FT. Kudos.

Agree with you completely.

Well, now that would just make me a liar, wouldn't it? :)

Wow, I actually read this whole thing, except for the original post which unfortunately has been removed.

Although some of the early responses were not very sympathetic, it seems to me that the OP is the one who took a bit of a confrontational tone early on to anyone who didn't fully agree with him. When you post an opinion (your perception of an event and how you think it should have been handled is pretty much an opinion) on an open, mostly anonymous Internet forum like this, I don't think it's realistic to expect everyone to see it your way. Or very productive to then just get mad and take your ball home. So maybe, just maybe, the OP's expectations on the plane weren't entirely realistic or productive either when the flight crew apparently did see it his way.

To be clear, I know that he purchased 2; he should have purchased 4.

And, no, I was not looking for the word "expected"...I meant the word that I used - "hope". I don't think he (necessarily) expected an UG but he surely hoped for one, and perhaps that one of the FA's would have sympathy and want to keep a family together. He sat exactly where he should have, regardless of sick children.
