Would this work?
If I booked a DL flight online and choose to pay with miles to pay down part (almost all) of the ticket cost - versus buying the full ticket outright with miles - would I still accumulate MQM miles? System seems to imply yes, but thought I would check. thanks!

NO, you will earn absolutely NO MILES WHATSOEVER IN ANY FORM, including MQMs, for ANY pay with miles ticket, even if you have only used miles to reduce the ticket price by $10. I don't understand why you believe that the "system" says otherwise.

From the T&C's: Pay with Miles tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual, Medallion Qualification Segments, Medallion Qualification Miles, or Best Fare Guarantee
