SEA-MSP DL40 also changed from 4 FC rows to 3 FC rows in expert flyer about 3 days before departure and the AC type changed from 320 to ANA. DL.dumb shows AC type as 320. I did not see any upgrades clear after the DM window on this flight. Fingers crossed for the upgrade as I booked it after the DM window.

Its a fabled idea where one, as a ff on a particular airline is eligible for movement from their originally booked cabin to the next cabin up. But that's not important right now. ;)

I read some ware (might have been in another thread hear) that this has to do with the placement of the exits on the A320s. World be nice to see the 737-8MAX with 16F replace these buses;)

Yep, because the overwing exits are in the front part of the coach cabin it really would have limited EC seats in order to keep 16F. The thing with 12F is that if Delta can arrange it so that the first exit row row number on the A320 matches up with the exit row row number on the A319 it would give Delta a lot of flexibility in terms of subbing A319 for A320 and vice versa if loads dictate it

On DL815 this morning MSP-CZM.

12 F seats and first three rows of coach redone and labelled 'Economy Comfort' on the overhead bins.

The legroom is nice -- now, let's see if they provide the drinks! (this is international flight, but, in many ways, run as domestic)

First time riding in coach this year -- on vacation too -- what a drag....

As a plat, missed the U/G on BOS-MSP this morning - Saturday morning, mind you. Not happy. Thought I was on a 319, shocked when I looked at the seat card.

Missed a Saturday morning U/G? Really?

Another devaluation, as far as I am concerned. Keep your EC, Delta. It's still coach...

Here are some pictures of A320 EC from DEN-ATL N365NW 11 FEB 2012. There seemed to be a lot of room in EC, more so than the 75E and 77L. Loss of 4F seats will hurt but the 18 EC seats will make the FOs, GMs and PMs happy. EC and a HOOU will be FC lite.

Flew these both ways on my recent DEN-MSP trip. Scored a gate upgrade DEN-MSP, and took a walk backwards through the cabin in flight. The difference in legroom between rows 4-6 and rows 7+ is truly striking, and I feel bad for whoever's in 7. Row 6 has full EC recline, but row 7 has zero extra legroom to compensate for it. I'll be avoiding that row on A320s going forward (and avoiding the row behind EC in general).

Coming back MSP-DEN, I moved into row 4 (EC) once the 24-hour window opened those seats up, and the legroom was incredible. Better than FC, I'd wager, and the only thing separating the two classes is a curtain (no bulkhead). Making things even sweeter was the open middle seat, so the gentleman seated in the aisle and I had our own little "mini-FC" cabin. The consolation prize HOOU coupon was icing on the cake, as I rarely have more than one drink per flight anyway. I don't necessarily want to say that I prefer row 4 to FC on an A320, but I will say that as long as I can get my butt into those seats, I'll be ok with missing upgrades on a 12F aircraft.

On a reconfig 320 now MSP-SEA. Scored the BF u/g as 1 of 23. 4-6 do seem to have good legroom. I saw the switch yesterday as row 5 opened for assignment. I would not mind this as much if it were more EC seats, as UA does.... 3 rows, with just 6 aisle options, 2 in the unmovable armrest rows, truly limits options....YMMV.

yep, Saturday used to be a 95% upgrade rate for Plats ... no more! Delta keeps improving (their bottom line).

Domestic Economy Comfort will not come with extra recline like International Economy Comfort does. So the row behind EC doesn't need extra legroom for any reason like on International

1944 DTW>DCA 2/12/12. I was unaware of this reconfig'd A320. Assigned 3C and couldn't figure out what was going on at first--even looked at the safety pamphlet in a few seat pockets before I was convinced I was on an A320! Looking back, I think the "new" EC row 4 on the A320 has immense legroom. Better than FC actually. I used to avoid bulkheads in general, but the new EC row 4 is excellent (less the meals and cocktails...). And to comment on the “what upgrade” comment above, as a DM, I have missed UG at least 5x since 1/1--and it’s only Feb! I was 17 on the battleground list at DCA the other day! Really?

Huh, could've fooled me. Must've just been the legroom throwing me off.

rylan Feb 15, 2012 6:12 am

Has the recline pitch issue been resolve/improved any with the change to 12F and addition of EC? On the 16F version of the A320, the F seats could recline all the way into your lap and make it impossible to use a small laptop or get your table tray in/out.

If its the same deal, then I'm wondering if EC is better than F except for the width. Personally I'd much rather go for more legroom than a wide seat with the person in front reclining into my lap.

Oh and yes don't expect many upgrades on the A320 anymore. It now has the worst F/Y ratio in the fleet, so on those elite heavy routes they like to use it on (such as BOS-MSP) a DM on a high fare ticket will be missing out.
