I'm seeing flights through ATL that might make this worthwhile for me, but can anyone find cheap options that route through DTW? Assuming that's even possible, but routing rules seem to indicate it is.
Edit: never mind, more MQM connecting through ATL
Edit #2: T&C require nonstop flights

yeah, plus travel has to originate and terminate in RDU. So, I would need an originating flight from lga to rdu and then back again.
I'd maybe ask for clarification, but maybe it means getting your usual bonus mqm's and on top of that, 3 times the mqms. that would make sense and maybe worth the positioning itin down to RDU.

lets see, if my math is correct, the total mqms for RDU to BOS to RDU would be 5508 at a cost of $450.00
Coming from NY, you'd have to book a seperate itin down to rdu. Throw on another $173.00 onto the $450.00 for that flight, and its only adding an extra 866 MQM's.
So, for a total of $625.00 I can accumalate nearly 6400 mqms.
I can do two trips to the west coast for 625.00 and, I'd amass close to 10,000 mqm's for the two trips. No thanks. If I was RDU based, it might be worth it.

Last time I flew to LGA they were selling gate upgrades, so I think this is just a ploy to get more people in paid F on that route. In general, it's not worth the money -- it's such a short flight.
On the other hand, if they used 2-class planes to JFK (RJ7, RJ9, or E75), they would sell a bunch in F. Lots of people make international or trans-con connections at that airport, and paid F makes a lot more sense on those routes.
If it's really 3 x 1.5 x 1000 = 4,500 MQMs then it could be a good deal -- depending on how you value MQMs.
