Timing for level jumps?
Hi there. Bit of a newbie question, and I may be overthinking this.... but, I have a good chance at making Gold this year for the first time and had a question.
Given that extra MQMs roll over to the next year, is there any strategy to timing my entry to the next level?
Ie - any advantage to doing it as fast as possible, waiting till late December, or just staying silver all year letting a load of miles roll over and scrambling to hit Gold in the spring?
Amy I making any sense? :-)

Dig it...
Right, got it. So whenever you go up a grade, you get it for precisely one calendar year from that moment out, right?
ie, if I go Gold tomorrow, I'll be Gold until today's date 2012, but not any longer?

The way it works out is that they "comp" you status for the remainder of the current calendar year, and then you "earn" medallion flying for the following year.
2011 flying earns you status for January 1, 2012-February 28, 2013 (and the remainder of 2011)
2012 flying earns you status for January 1, 2013-February 28, 2014 (and the remainder of 2012)
Anything over the threshold of (15000 if you fly 65000 miles in 2011) is added to your 2012 flying total.

Just depends on your travel patterns. If you are a under 50k a year flier but think you will have 26000 in early 2012 I would wait that way you will have gold for almost 2 years.
I could be wrong on this, but if you were to only fly 45 k next year you would then have 20k rolling over for the 2013 year making it easy to qualify again for 2014.
