What is TPAC? I'm an infrequent flyer but have used D1 several times. I do like there are options for people like me to be in a nicer cabin, but I get why it would annoy frequent fliers.
If I'm paying cash is it better to just buy the main cabin ticket and then check the upgrade price from time to time then buy the first/business ticket right away? edit: someone above got D1 for $450 for ATL- (somewhere in Asia) ? is that a pricing error? |

9/19 - DTW-ICN $4536 from a PS G fare.
|
ICN - MSP $2k from a PS G fare
Though I got the PS G fare for the same price as the corporate refundable M fare because DL.com was showing PS as $15 more than the prevailing public Y fare and the couldn’t figure out how to upfare the ticket that so they did an even exchange to G instead. Offer had been $2k as well from the corporate M fare to D1 — had been hoping to see it come down (maybe it still will) |
03/10/20 FCO-ATL $799 from C+. As I can sleep well in biz on daylight flights, and it's 10-11 hours, I took it.
|
I'm getting $665 SRQ-ATL and $840 ATL-LAX for end of month on a Friday, not much better for the outbound on a Saturday. Um, no thank you.

Flying Delta to Atlanta from CVG in the next few weeks. Was offered an upgrade to first class from main cabin for $84. With FC that cheap (and so much elite competition), I don't think I'll ever bother trying to get status on DL again. I just love seeing the list of 40+ elites waiting for an upgrade at the gate on any given flight from CVG.

After getting a comp upgrade 5 days out on LGA-CMH...
I've been unable to get an upgrade on CMH-LGA. FCM went from 241 (lol) to 130 (lol) to then $44... and with 1A on an E170 the only seat left... I snatched it up. Yeah, it's a short flight, but I like 1A and I don't mind the extra miles and MQM for $44 bucks |
$799 for D1 on the new 764 on JFK - LHR off an award ticket for August 2020 (total cost for Y ticket is 31k, DL is saying the JFK - LHR portion was 10k).
Pretty incredible but it's too short of a flight and a 7pm departure so not worth it especially x2 and on top of other upgrade funds being used elsewhere |

Had to change from a 5:30 to 10:xx flight, was able to SDC to the last FC seat. So I have that going for me. Which is nice. |
$109 To upgrade to F ORD-SLC on Award Ticket!
Finally a positive SkyMiles post!!
Booked a ORD-SLC-PHX award ticket for 4,500 Skymiles. Just offered a paid upgrade to F on ORD-SLC for $109, which I gladly accepted. Anyone else have a 3+hr flight upgrade for that cheap off an award ticket???? Feeling pretty good here!!😊 |
Not necessarily off an award ticket, but some paid upgrades from a V fare (or so) are ridiculously cheap. For example, $60-ish for PHX-SEA in First (over 1,000 miles) and $200 for a transpacific upgrade to Premium Select (comparable to domestic first class). They figure that making a quick buck on these paid upgrades beats giving them away for free to Diamonds on domestic legs (Diamonds would not be upgraded to PS for free, though)... So we don't need to be wondering anymore why our domestic complimentary upgrade percentages are so lousy.
|
Given the option, pay a few hundred dollars for a guaranteed upgrade vs. wait and possibly not get it, these seem like a positive. Plus it allows non status people to have a shot at experiencing first class if they want to.
