Wed evening - Sat evening

The thought did cross my mind of will this be an easy upgrade, but with prices that cheap for anyone without status to upgrade to, I could see the cabin selling out. EC is also $29 each way, so really makes the decision easy for some people.

Wed evening before Thanksgiving = no-brainer to pay
Sat evening of the holiday weekend return, not so much

next time you check, if the $116 offer is still there, call to see if you can buy up on the outbound only

How is $138 for only 680 MQMs worth it.

The MQMs are worth around $30, perhaps. Extra bags (depending on status) and not worrying about overhead space are worth something.

Extra SDC flexibility can be worth a lot.

I was merely pointing out that up-faring to the P/A/G fares also gives you the bonus MQMs, in addition to SDC flexibility.

Besides, FCM offer in question is now $116 for:
- A guaranteed FC seat both ways
- 680 extra MQMs
- SDC flexibility both ways

And while OP appears to be GM or PM, if he/she were not, that $116 would also provide:
- Extra checked bags both ways
- SkyPriority both ways

Personally, I think that's a solid deal, and I've certainly paid more than that just for the SDC flexibility when I've needed or wanted it.

Another thing is that as a GM I can't select C+(for free) so it's an extra value to me.

I am GM as well, so its nice when my partner and I travel together as he is PM I get C+ always. My partner also doesn't understand why people pay for C+ or F but he is 5'10 and I am 6'4" so for me its the leg room for C+ and width and and leg room for F.

These FCMs are great value from my point of view. I'm based in Australia and business class fares here are 5-7 times more expensive than the cheapest Y fares. Good value F fares on Delta are those about double the price of the cheapest Y fares but the SCs are the greatest value and having more room, boarding before the hoards in the SP line, having dedicated overhead space is a nice bonus.

Executive suite ego coming into play here. They have to make that 70% paid FC promise to Wall Street.

:D

Agreed, Thanksgiving day and the day after are great for upgrades. As a FO I booked some mileage runs on those 2 days last year. I flew 10 segments, all upgrades cleared, and I locked in PM (through UA status match).

I gave 2 of the upgrades to Uniformed Soldiers on the day after Thanksgiving.

Very cynical - but probably 100% spot-on ;)

Side note and slightly OT- at long last DAY-DTW route is getting some CR9s not exclusively CR2s - so an F cabin available - plus I am not keen on the CR2s AKA Barbie Jets.

yeah, it's been a REALLY long time since there was any two-cabin service on that route ... the last two non-CRJ/ERJ entries in my log were red-tail NW DC-9-30s in the summer of 1999

Unfortunately, I don't know any analysts who cover Delta. If someone does, it would be interesting to get them to ask Delta for the average cost of F (over Y) over the last few years. Perhaps when that news hits the stock market Delta will decide that losing money to hit an arbitrary percentage isn't such a great idea.

I don't think it will lose them money - just not make as much as the markets were hoping for. In my case with the above cited example, it could be argued on routes of relatively low popularity at weekend, as a DM I would have got the UGs anyway. DL thus gain some extra bucks and I don't have to play the lottery. I still think a win all round. IMHO

It could be argued the MSP-DTW on a Sunday evening may have been more difficult and I could have been 2/15 with 1 seat remaining.
