My kids get it and think it's cool to be able to identify what type of plane from just seeing part of a wing or landing gear, etc. The wife...not so much but I am continuing to work on her! :)

Never thought of using the landing gear to identify the plane. I watch Eurpoean arrivals coming into IAD from my office desk. Sometimes I have to interrupt people in my cube..."...Lufthansa A330...continue..." :).

I will be flying home from a MR on 6/6...the first day the A380 arrives at IAD. I'll have to catch it on 6/7...hoping the winds are from the north that day so they fly by my window. Those afternoons provide a colorful parade of heavies. I find the new UA/CO livery much better than the old UA schemes.

such corporate BS, it would encourage more people to actually see the movie...

The movie was super mediocre. Few funny bits.

Now I have to watch it. I still haven't seen the first one to the shock of some. I remember on a JFK-LAX, I watch some movie because the preview had footage from the South Parking Garage in ATL of a 757. Dang, I can't remember the movie (mainly because I didn't enjoy it).

I'm beginning to wonder if the folks on this thread have ever seen a movie that didn't have Zach Galifianakis in it :D

Just curious...
  1. What's the connection to the previous statement?
  2. Why do you say that? The UA people hate it and even the CO people (like me) are simply happy that it's the same livery as CO...

Whew! I am glad that I am not the only one with this "sickness." I still watch the show "Amazing Race," and on EVERY episode they do this "bait and switch" with airliners. A team will board, and we get the interior and exterior view of a 747. Then, the producers will show them taking off in 757 and landing in a A320. Ugh. It drives me crazy. Why am I so ill? I need help, please!

^ Makes me wonder- maybe they switch aircraft in the middle of the flight as they travel the world on the Amazing Race. For all we know in Hangover 2, they could have switched flights/aircraft for connections, etc. and scene was cut.

:D

Ok, I'll admit it. It drives me crazy too.

I was watching 'Love Bites,' on NBC last night, up until the point, where a woman with a baby in a kangaroo pouch, claimed the window seat... in the exit row!! Immediately switched to Trek TNG on the DVR.

Connection to the previous statement, which one are you referring? UA is part of the daily parade of planes a watch...I significant amount being that IAD is a UA hub.

Why do I say I like the new livery? I have always liked the classic United lettering like you see on the building at SFO. I find the varying shades of blue and gray on UA planes to be dreary, even on a sunny day. And the fact that they've never been all painted the same...it's like, what's that gray blob? Oh, United. At least now with white they are bright and shiny. Easier to decipher from a distance (I'm on the path before they make their big turn to the runway). And I like the way they married the logos of the two companies.

I guess that's what you were asking. I find the lighter colors more pleasing to the eye. And the larger the plane the better. I missed lots of flights today because of meetings... :( Damn work always getting in the way of planespotting.

The roof of the garage was used as the rental car facility in Due Date. Going along w this thread there were multiple ATL/airline errors in that movie too. Don't recall if they were flying DL, but I did enjoy watching it w the Mr while we also picked apart every ATL-shot scene for accuracy (meaning, not much accuracy). Combining location & studio/sound stage footage can be fraught w peril.

Thanks to state of GA film crew tax breaks, we're enjoying lots of opportunities to pick apart movies & related locations. Just the other night I was thwarted from parking next to a friend's piano recital because the Farrelly brothers are filming a re-make of The Three Stooges around midtown ATL. Wonder if the Stooges fly?

reed2x Jun 3, 2011 9:10 pm

Interior shot was a 777. The layout clearly shows three seats by the window, and in the foreground, you also see three seats in the middle section. for filming the must have placed the camera in the aisle or in the near window section of three seats. Also if you look at the windows they are very large 777 size, with a deep well, and not as closely aligned as on a 757 or 737.

Landing looked like a 764, but what got me was the daytime landing in BKK, those flight always arrive in the middle of the night.

ATLFlyer1013 Jun 3, 2011 9:47 pm

Just saw the movie tonight. The only thing that stuck out to me was when they showed a Delta plane landing, and I thought it was clearly an A300 or a 310, in new Delta colors. It did not seem like a modern day airbus such as a 320 or 330. Very confusing to me.

I haven't seen the movie yet, so no spoilers! I imagine the flight in the movie is the one from the USA to BKK. If so, how could it be a narrowbody at all? Takeoff and landing could be stock video, but the actual inside of the plane should still be real, no?

Doesn't have to be. Could easily be a sound stage, a plane that's not currently in service, etc, etc.
