You're right - that plane didn't have winglets, so maybe it was a 777. I thought 777 at first but looked at the gear immediately and thought I only saw two sets of wheels. It seemed a bit too big to be a 767. I think I recall the ship number on the front gear doors being visible, but I didn't write it down. Maybe if someone's going to see it they could get it?

It definitely was not a 777. The 777's fuselage is much bigger than what I saw. I could also see the 3R exit was a bit smaller, which is another piece of evidence to determine 764.

Thanks to the Flyertalk Family

I love reading threads like this. I mention stuff like this to my wife and she doesn't get it ("your going through LAX on your way home to CLT from JAX?"). My kids get it and think it's cool to be able to identify what type of plane from just seeing part of a wing or landing gear, etc. The wife...not so much but I am continuing to work on her! :)

In addition to being a travel geek, I'm also a computer geek. The same type of discussion crops up on tech-related forums whenever computer interface is prominently featured in a movie (what ? A Linux box does NOT have that cursor/screen/sound! What was the director thinking??).

So, no, we are not the only ones with this "problem". :)

But then they are flying in a 4 engine widebody (?747) but sitting in 3-3 coach like a narrowbody (would have been perfect time to showase the lie flat 777lr seats...) and then the Plane has only 2 engines.... 777 or 757 or 767??? I don't know

Stupid , u'd think if u r paying money for product placement ud be more careful... And their flight number was 2xxx

Lol begin flaming me

Not a flame but just an observation: aviation buffs are often surprised to find that normal people aren't hung up on minutiae like a row of seats depicted in a movie. Cruise buffs are similar, and you will find people posting in cruise forums saying things like, "How can they show a Fincantieri X2ZBOB class when everybody knows only the Y220ZZX ship was built that year!"

People are weird about that kind of stuff, but I can't explain it.

I thought the interiors of aircraft shown in movies were almost always sets on the ground and not an actual aircraft interior. I haven't seen this movie yet, but every movie I have seen, there is always tons more room in the aircraft than any one I have ever been in...or maybe my shoulders really are that broad and muscular....

I noticed as well.

Takeoff was definitely 747.

The interior shots were a 767. 2-3-2 seating in economy.

The landing shot was an A330. I thought 777 at first, but the rear gear was 2 wheels deep, not three.

Why would they use multiple planes? Makes no sense. Besides; most of the movie was shot on scene. Why not shoot the actual flight??

Stock Footage. Common in movies, even more common in news stories. I love when DL announces a new route out of RDU and they show a 727...

22 posts later.....but was the rest of the movie any good ?

I haven't seen the movie yet, so no spoilers! I imagine the flight in the movie is the one from the USA to BKK. If so, how could it be a narrowbody at all? Takeoff and landing could be stock video, but the actual inside of the plane should still be real, no?

FPRob May 31, 2011 7:25 am

Inside actually looked like a real Delta plane, not overly large like many films. My first thought was how packed everyone looked. Movie is ok, funny lines, but basically the same as the first but in Bangkok.

I made the same comments to the person I saw it with, much to their annoyance.

Hahaha, me too!
But these inconsistencies regarding airplanes/types happen much more often.
I remember a Lufthansa video where you see a A346 cockpit, and a 747 landing. :o
Most wouldn't bother but it irritates me! :p

I'm a big fan of Amazing Race television series. They too will often show departures on one type and arrival on a different type. They're quick to make sure the airline logo is the same but i guess they figure who's gonna know the difference in the aircraft. Very annoying.

Not really, unless you enjoy recycled low-brow comedy. The best part (IMO, and I'm sure for others on FT) truly was them getting to BKK (on DL, of course).

IIRC, the interior they used looked like that of a 767-400, and the exterior landing shot could have been an A330.

The video I posted is of the airport, takeoff, the cabin during the flight, and the landing in Thailand. No real spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet.
