I expect much of that routing is on ASA, so be prepared for a lot of delays and tight or missed connections.
I travel to BTR often and find that it's worthwhile to drive to MSY and fly mainline than to put my schedule in the hands of ASA. I don't recall ever being at BTR when there wasn't a delay on either the flight before mine or my flight. Ask around to find out what "ASA" really stands for.

There's a Skyclub in JAX, but nothing for *A. I also think upgrades are tough to/from JAX unless you are a DL DM or PM.
If your goal is upgrades, adding in those extra segments is a good strategy.
