DL8850 MSP-MKE on a 744 -- charter or positioning flight?

Hard to believe DL would run a 744 between MSP and MKE.

Is this a charter, positioning flight, or actual flight?

I find more interesting the previous flight 8850 from ATL to Andrews. It appears it sat there for a couple days and is now off to Frankfurt. Wonder if its carrying some of the 200,000 people accompanying our President to India...

Andrews to Frankfurt? Sounds like a military charter to me...

I saw a DL 747 parked at DFW on Tuesday night at about 11pm while taxi'ing to terminal A. I thought that was odd too.

There’s an “honor flight” tomorrow taking 200 veterans and volunteers to DC to tour the WWII and other memorials.

DL 747s have been used for these flights from DSM, as well.

Wow, a 50 minute flight on a 744. That would be fun! I wonder how high they would be able to get before starting their approach...

FL290 (roughly 29,000 feet). Actual max; they had plenty of time to go higher.

FL290 is not roughly 29,000. It is 29,000 feet.

Wow...I usually only make it to FL230 on the same route.

Seriously, good to see DL using the 744 in MKE.

I found this fascinating. There are no Delta flights out of MKE scheduled on 747s anytime in the next 2 days. Also, the only 747s in and out of MSP the last 2 days have been from NRT, with another 747 leaving for NRT each day. So I'm guessing that they rotated one out and sent it to MKE for???

I suppose it could be a charter, but you wouldn't think they would park a 747 for several days at an airport considering how close DTW and MSP are.

It seems odd they would send it to MKE for maintenance as well. I find this curious, anyone have other thoughts?

Pressure altitude, sure it is. But there are some other nits we could pick here...

Read my post #6. There is really nothing fascinating about it. Honor flights are charters that fly WWII vets and their chaperones to Washington DC for the day. They're quite common. The flights from DSM used DL 744s. The link shows there is a similar flight out of MKE today. It is very very likely that's what the plane is there for.

FlightAware confirms the flight to DC this morning mentioned in my last post.
