Gate upgrade priority

I had a question last night that the Platinum Medallion desk could not answer. Here's the scenario... two PM's (same fare class, all things equal, etc.) standing by for an upgrade at the gate (neither cleared at the 5 day window), if one wants to upgrade into V, and one into G using SUG Certificates, who wins?

Wouldn't it depend on which inventory bucket was available? If V>0, they should have already cleared. If G is available, then when the request is made they should clear. I don't think you are really comparing apples to apples here.

I believe the correct answer is that the person trying to upgrade into G would clear first, according to a Delta TA. My mom was traveling once and I used miles to upgrade her, bu the upgrade didn't clear on one segment. The TA showed me the computer screen, and all the G requests were above the V requests.

Thanks cmn.jcs! Can anyone else confirm this? GaryO3, I think you misunderstood my question. It referred to both V0 and G0 and upgrades being cleared at the gate.
