Huge decrease in Carribbean Coverage...
Just a vent, I guess...
Going to a friend's wedding in Anguilla in May 2011... and had just bought (using miles) my wife and my tickets to go SAN-ATL-SXM (and then take a ferry from St. Maarten to Anguilla).
Well, 2 days after I book the ticket, the flights TO and FROM St. Maarten are gone! Delta went from serving St. Maarten 6 or 7 days a week down to 1 day going there and 1 day coming back.
Isn't that a bit drastic for a reduction?!?! I mean, we are pretty much screwed now. At least we can get the entire trip cancelled and have the miles redeposited for free now. And then I guess we'll just rebook SAN-ATL and ATL-SAN, but having to pay to fly to the Carribbean is NOT what we look for from the "World's Largest Airline"... Plus, I think we'll have to fly USAIR (Yuck) to St. Maarten, because American Airlines got rid of their flights to St. Maarten on the same day!

Every one is pulling out in the Caribbean. AA pulled it hub out of SJU and then every one else started pulling flights to the small islands also. Richard said when he took over Delta the cheap flights to Vegas and Orlando would go away eventually. I think they are starting that in the Caribbean.

I've noticed a definite decrease in DL flights to the Caribbean. For example, DL cut flights to STT from multiple per day to 1/day on Fri and just a couple on weekends during peak winter season. SKB (St. Kitts) is only 1/week on Sat.
Maybe when/if the economy recovers they might restore some of the flights.

AA pulled out of EWR-SJU and CO went down to once a day from EWR. There is now a grand total of one non-stop per day from EWR to SJU. Just a few years ago, CO, AA, and B6 all offered multiple trips per day.
Certainly the US carriers are realizing it is tough to make a buck on these flights.

Have you thought about using B6(Jet Blue) to SXM? The service is quite nice and I think better than USair

But at the same time it seems that DL is greatly increasing service to CUN. According to the route map in the Sky Magazine DL is now going to be offering nonstop flights to CUN from 20 airports.

The title of this thread is a generalization. Here in SDQ we are getting hit by a drastic reduction of flights to/from the rest of the Caribbean and some US cities, but DL seems to be keeping their routes.

Given the offered proof of flight reductions to a single city, the tread title seems overblown.

Exactly, thanks. I knew there were SEVERAL locations in the Carribbean losing coverage, but I just knew that SXM directly affected me.
So, the thread title is NOT a generalization, it's just true.
And it sucks.

truly nonstop, I was quite surprised
ATL, DTW, MSP, CVG, MEM, JFK, SLC, LAX, BDL, BOS, IAD, IND, MKE, CMH, BNA, SAT, AUS, MCO, TPA, RDU, all with nonstop service to CUN
it looks like many of them are Saturday only, but still a lot of options
