Question Status question

Pardon my ignorance, but I don't play the status game very well

If I have Gold Medallion status right now and would accrue another 50+K MQM before year's end, would that make me a Platinum for the remainder of this year and the rest of the miles will rollover into 2011 to get me back to Silver ... or will the Platinum status also rollover into 2011/2012 ?

It isn't a matter of whether you're a GM now but how many MQMs you currently have.

Current 0 MQMs, earn 50K MQMs, GM through February 2012 but no rollover

Current 40K MQMs, earn 50K MQMs, PM through February 2012, 15K rollover

Current 60K MQMs, earn 50K MQMs, PM through February 2012, 35K rollover (guarantees at least FO status through February 2013)

If you would qualify for PM today, you would be one until end of Feb 2012. Any excess would be rolled over

Thank very much for your quick response MR_MAMA & MSPeconomist ^

At this moment I have banked 55.723 MQM

Current 40K MQMs, earn 50K MQMs, PM through February 2012, 15K rollover
Thus, according to your explanation I would be a PM thru 2/12 with a rollover into 2011 of 30.723 miles ?

And what happens if I don't accrue any more 'butt-in-seat' miles this year ?

Your calc is correct. If you don't earn any more MQMs you will be a GM through Feb 2012. I think you would also carry over 5.723K to your 2011 MQM accretion.

Thanks ^

I believe I got it now

Which brings me to another question:

I hardly ever score a domestic upgrade and since I only fly International - mostly thru hubs - what exactly are the benefits as compared between Gold and Platinum Status ... if there would be any for me ?

Edit: Just discovered that there seems to be a bonus of one "Choose One of Choice Benefits" for Platinum Status ?

Besides the increased chance of domestic UG being Plat, there is generally no advantage for intl flts because DL does not offer complimentary upgrades. However, if you usually fly an M+ fare for intl, then you could choose 4 SWU's as your Choice Benefit and get 2 r/t upgrades, subject to availability.

Also, PM gives you the advantage of intl lounge access in many cities. For more benefits of PM over GM, see here.....

You would actually get two choice benefits - one for 2010 and one for 2011.

Had to dig thru numerous threads to find out what FO actually stands for
