A tale of how Delta came thru at 6am

(This post has not been edited for grammar or spelling or anything else)
Picture this leaving Las Vegas at 11PM on a Sunday night back to NY in the winter - the last non-stop back and you miss it. LV delta terminal is small so it is easy to run around to find a flight to anywhere. Let us backtrack a bit on what happened. I was gambling on my last day there and as I was cashing in at the casino they asked for my ID and I left it there as I left for the airport. As I get to the airport I have everything with me except my ID so I scrounge to get to the casino and back to the airport ASAP. I get to the casino get my ID from the security and get back to the airport and am running thru security to get to my last flight of the night. I miss it by 2 minutes and I am devastated. The gate agent goes 1) you can still go thru security without ID, and 2) maybe you should've been early. Ugh.

I dont want to be in LV any longer than I need to be at this point. I then am trying to get on the line with the Silver Medallion line and guess what I am on hold for 45 minutes and no luck. I am running around flight shopping for the next flight out to somewhere, anywhere. As I am running around with my roller bag I manage to drop my in-n-out burger(I had time on my first foray to the airport to stop at in-n-out) and all the food shops are closing. Oh no, what do I do now?

Next flight ATL is full, ATL flight 2 is gone, MSP flight 2 is open but I cant get on the standby list, oh but wait MSP flight 1 is open and as a SM I get to jump all the other people. Oh look they go Nas6034 come on down. I do, I head to the plane but my bag is too big to fit in the overhead so they force me to check it in. I get on the plane and whats this? There are no seats, so Nas6034, you have to leave the flight. Reluctantly, I leave.

I am outside by the gate and that is the last flight of the evening, no more flights till the next morning with open seats. The gate agent for MSP says come back at 4am wait outside and pay $50 to get on the flight. But guess what, I go to the gate agent..but but..I am unable to pay $50. she goes "why?" I go remember when you made me check in my bag on the MSP flight? Well my wallet was in there and the only thing I have on me now is my ID and my cellular phone. She confers with her associate and puts me on the 6am flight to jfk. YAY! No, wait, not good! I have my ID and a phone that is low on battery and no money so what do I do? I'm hungry. I end up trying to sleep at the airport chairs, boy oh boy are they sooo uncomfortable that I want to kill myself. 5am comes around, more people at the airport, 530, 545, people are boarding, around 6 as I am about to board they go Nas6034 please come hither. I go and I get upgraded and on the 757 to boot, nice to have live television!! I get on the flight, I am sleepy and extremely hungry, soon as I get on, I am like FEED ME and extremely out of place. People looked at me like how the heck did this bum with nothing but a jacket on his back looking all messy get in first. Well I did suckers! The rest of my flight was filled with elation knowing I will be back in NY in no time and be able to live real-time by watching TV and stuffing myself with sunchips and twix. Ah, the good life!

I make it back to JFK, and guess what? My bag made it from LAS-MSP-JFK safe and sound with my wallet in there but a day of work missed but it was well worth it and lessons learned.

Kudos to Delta, you came thru for a Delta Silver Medallion!

If they wanted to see your real ID (not just your frequent gambler card) at the cashier, you had a nice trip!

I have had plenty of times leaving Sin City that I was down to so few chips that they either went on 13 at roulette, or any friendly hotel employee.

Then you baggage checked your wallet

Yea I did cause i was frustrated, I didnt have my jacket on me it was in my bag so I only had a shirt on and my wallet is big so it was annoying in my pocket so i put it in the bag.

I wish I had that type of trip but they ID checked me none-the-less. Weird.

Glad you made it home. In the future if you do forget your ID, when you check in just show another ID, credit card, etc. They will SSSS your boarding pass and you will have a pat down security check and you will be fine.

2) Silvers have a Medallion line? I'm just surprised, as they seem to be cutting so many Silver benefits!! Do you feel you get any better level of service from the Silver line than the regular number? Just curious.

gurl that is not a comfortable airport to sleep in. kudos to getting back to the concrete jungle. JFK-LAS is not an elite heavy route, so you will probably always get a nice little upgrade.

sorry you dropped your in-n-out. i decided to take del taco through security. delicious.

I hope so. I'm probably going back at the end of this month. Wanting those upgrades. Always nice to use the skyclub at JFK.

Don't really know where to start...

You were late to the airport
You forgot your ID
You had a carryon bag that was too big for the overhead bin
You were hungry because you dropped your own food on the floor
You gate checked your wallet (I think this might be the biggest "...")

I am downright amazed you got back to JFK in a timely fashion, let alone in FC and without paying a SDC fee, etc.

It is indeed possible to get through security without ID, but I'm surprised they let you through without pants.

It is truly an amazing story. A tale of Delta coming thru for me. I completely agree its my fault and I'm giving kudos to Delta.

Well shirt, pants and sneakers on.

My bag wasnt too big for the carryon, she just wouldnt let me take it in. I've successfully placed my bag in the overhead bin many times before with the same amount of luggage in it.

This happened last (or another) winter and something just prompted you to start a new thread and write about it now?
