Using a SWU certificate

When using a certificate is it good for all segments on your itinerary (one way) or do I néed to use one for each segment?

For all segments (one way) on your itinerary you will need one SWU. So for a round trip, you will need two. For a multi-city..... more complicated, and would possibly need more, depending upon whether it is really multi-city vs stop-over, etc.

You could also use miles to UG in one direction, and a SWU on the return...

Thank you. I'm hoping to be upgraded by status but I have a redeye coming back from ANC next weekend and want insurance if needed, don't want to sleep in coach unless I can swing a whole row to myself! Right now first looks wide open, just playing the waiting game for the UG window to kick in

Mr. Mama,

you probably realize this, but I mention it anyway just in case. In order to use a SWU cert, you need to be booked in K or better.

The other thing is that there needs to availability in the UG class... (the domestic equivalent of Z ... ) and there is no guarantee of that, unfortunately.

It's G. Free elite upgrades (EUA) come from the V inventory for domestic FC. Upgrade space can be available in one bucket but not the other.

Remember that if you use miles or a SWU to upgrade now, you can't have it returned to you if looks like your EUA will clear.

Also, FTers have suspected that G inventory tends not to be released or added to as the flight enters EUA windows.

You stand a pretty good chance of pulling the UG, IMO. As a PM, you should know in another day or so ( I've been 5/5 from ANC to SLC or MSP since I made PM, all on sLUT fares, & 4 of those cleared at 6 days ) Which flight are you on ? I'll be coming up Sunday on DL 1089 from MSP.

SWU Hint

As I learned last night, if you remain 'waitlisted' for the SWU when you leave for the airport, and your SWU's are electronic, bring your cert #'s with you...it will save the gate agent a lot of time trying to look it up.
