Question Zone 2 boarding

Mrs. jrp2 and I are flying in coach tmrw out of ATL on an MD88. Checked in online and it says we are boarding in zone 2. I thought that zone 2 was for medallion members which neither of us are. Not complaining, just curious.

Thanks.

With the introduction of SkyPriority, Zone 2 is now general boarding. Zone 1 is now for all Medallions and SkyTeam Elites, while First Class boards prior to Zone 1.

Zone 2 is Silver Medallion and elites on Delta partners. Prior to becoming SM, I did have an exit row one time and was given zone 2. Zone 1 is GM, PM, and DM. And, of course, now there is Prem for First Class. Enjoy!^

Edited to add: I just looked at your profile and noted that you are an AmEx Reserve holder. That may have something to do with the Zone 2 as well. Seems like I remember reading that gave you priority boarding.

Wrong. Zone 1 is DM, PM, and GM only. Zone 2 is FO. Could have to do with Reserve membership, or perhaps you are in a bulkhead?

I'm in 17D and she is in 17E on the MD88.

Strange. Likely due to your Reserve membership. If not, just a lucky glitch. If you are still curious, give DL a call to see where Zone 2 came from (after you complete the itinerary, of course!).

I've never been the "victim" of a good glitch. I am curious as to why cause both AMEX and Delta can't seem to be clear what benefits the Reserve gives, if any, in boarding priority. I will inquire after our trip is over and see if they can tell me why. I'm not complaining though.

There is a Zone 1 and a Zone 2. Is there a Zone 3?

Yes, Zone 3 and 4 are both general boarding, zone 3 is for those in the back half of the plane and 4 is for those in the front half of the plane sans passengers seated in the bulkhead.

My bad, you are correct on that. Agree with you that the reserve card probably bumped OP up to zone 2.

When we got home from our trip, We stopped by the ATL DL SC. I asked one of the Delta folks there why we were in Zone 2, they couldn't explain to me why. The reserve card seems a reasonable answer. Thought I would update you guys.
