KLM Code Share on Delta
We are planning a trip to Europe this summer. I have been watching flight costs for different cities while we finalize our plans.
I am about ready to book the flights, but now see that the KLM flight (code share on delta metal) is now $175 cheaper (after taxes and all) per ticket than the same flight under a Delta number.
What are the disadvantage for going the cheaper way with a KLM ticket? I am gold with Delta.
Thanks in advance.

Check the booking class to make see if you will earn Skymiles, medallion bonus miles, and MQMs. The cheapest fares (such as V, which is often the lowest) do not.

Depending on how much value you place on the miles, it may be worth buying up to the DL-coded ticket, or to a more expensive KL ticket.

Somtimes you can get lower prices by simply adding one intra-Europe KLM coded segement and keep the other ones DL coded for 100% EQM.

use ITA for this with carrier selection and then re-create e.g. with Expedia. I have had good success with DL DL AF DL and so on. You will max. lose one 500 mile segment, but the other ones should be 100%. This doesn't always work, but @ $150 price difference worth a shot.

I would note that ITA pulls up a LOT of phantom KL and AF fares. A LOT. This is especially true for relatively short-notice bookings. You will see some great fares and they simply won't price out. Not sure what the problem is, as I see this with KL and AF far more than any other carrier.

The phantom fares are always T class. ITA has been showing some really good T-class fares on KL for transatlantic travel this July (~$200 cheaper than the next best fares on DL, etc.) but I've had zero luck getting a DL/KL agent to find the same fare bucket. None of the online sites have them either, although Orbitz/Cheaptickets will sometimes list similar-priced tickets that mysteriously become unavailable when you actually try to book them
