Multi-segment trip

Hi all, I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum, I wasn't really sure. I have a trip coming up in a few weeks. Due to my schedule I am going to have a lot of spare time to bounce through a couple of airports to pick up extra miles. So I was going to use the ITA software to dig up some route possibilities. However, I know that after I find the routes I will then need to create a multi-leg trip on Delta's site. My question is, how do checked bags work? Will I have to stop at each location, pick-up my bag and recheck it, or would it be checked all the way through?

Thanks!

If it's all on the same itinerary, your bag is checked through to the final destination. If it's not all on the same itinerary, you can try to convince an agent to check it through to the final destination. I was flying MSP-CVG-MCO and MCO-ATL-DTW on two separate itins, and the DL agent was able to tag my luggage MSP-CVG-MCO-ATL-DTW. (Your luggage travels with you on each plane, so bear in mind that every plane change increases the likelihood of it misconnecting.) I went to luggage services immediately upon my arrival to DTW just to make sure that my luggage came in on the same flight I did, and not that it was stranded in MCO or something.
