IF you had held short, you would NOT have gotten the same thing.

Qualify PM in 2009, DM in 2010:

1 2010 PM benefit (now)
1 2011 PM benefit (when you make 75k in 2010)
2 2011 DM benefit (when you make 125k in 2010)
PM when you hit 75k in 2009; DM after you hit 125k in 2010

Qualify DM in 2009; DM again in 2010:
2 2010 DM benefits (now)
2 2011 DM benefits (when you hit 125k in 2010)
PM when you hit 75k in 2009; DM from 3/1/2010

So making DM in 2009 instead of 2010 gets you two DM benefits instead of 2 PM benefits, and gets you DM from 3/1 instead of only after you hit 125k in 2010.

This seems fair to me, and in line with DL's earlier communications (disregarding FTers optimistic reading of Jeff's usage of the word "current" - FTers should have known better than to read DL-speak in any way other than the most pessimistic way possible.)

We were ripped off and lied to (see Jeff's quote). I would have stopped short and built up AA miles and got the 20k RDM's for the Plat choice for 2010. I have sent 2 emails and I am writing a snail mail right now.

Except that I would have rolled 50k into 2010 (this year) and hit DM for 2010 anyway..I'm not getting your explanation.

So:

2010 miles earned Plat in 2009 I get = 1 PM pick...hold short
2010 miles earned in 2010 = rollover + earned miles in 2010 (DM)= 1 PM pick and 1 DM pick.

I still miss the PM pick. The DM pick I am taking now is for THIS year not next so I would have got that anyway.

I suppose it depends on how DL defines the program years.

I've labeled the benefits by program year. Mileage accrued from 1/1/09 through 12/31/09 is for the 2010 program year. The question I guess is, if you start 2010 calendar year never having flown DL, and then fly 125k miles in 2010, do you get 2010 PM, 2010 DMx2, and 2011 DMx2? Or do you just get 1x 2011 PM and 2x 2011 DM?

No, I thought about it - we* are now acccuring benefits for the 2011 program year. So if you didn't fly 125k in 2009, it is not possible to now get 2010 DM benefits.

Put another way, if you never flew DL and you fly 125k this year and never fly DL again, you will get:

1 PM choice
2 DM choices

And any membership choices you gift will expire on 2/29/2012

If you flew 125k last year and 125k this year, you get
4 DM choices (2 for 2010 program year, 2 for 2011)

If you flew 75k last year and 125k this year, you get:
2 PM choices (1x for the calendar 2009 flying, 1x for the calendar 2010 flying) and 2 DM choices.

So getting DM in 2009 got you two DM choices instead of 2 PM choices, and DM effective 3/1/2010.

*And by "we" I mean those of you still giving DL your money.

I re-read you post and that is the issue. It is the definition of program year and earning year. The bottom line to me is I would have got to pick a 20k RDM award if I hit this year and would have hit it easily in January with a roll-over.

That is at the heart of the problem: You can earn 2010 DM status even if you never flew in 2009. You are working in next years status but your status is active this year when you hit it.

Actually I am not sure anymore but I am 100% sure what Jeff posted here and that is why I am so upset.

That is the way I read the program.
You do not have to wait until 2011 to claim your choices.
Your choices are for the 2011 year and are valid until 2012
(according to my choices on the website)
So I have 1 silver till 2011 to give and another silver until 2012!

Status, yes, but benefits, no. The new benefits work like the old threshold/elite extraperks awards: You're only building towards one set of awards at once. That's different than elite STATUS, which you get the moment you get it and is good for the remainder of the current program year and the following program year.

Put another way, I flew 100k in 2009 and have flown (and likely will fly) 0k in 2010. My *ONLY* choice benefit option right now is the 2010 PM choice. I DO NOT HAVE a 2011 PM choice. I imagine that in order to get a 2011 PM choice, I would need to have 75k MQM in 2010 (going for 2011 status)

I think because the travel year for 2012-3 (2011) has not begun yet, you have 0 miles for that year as of now.

This is the best explanation that I have seen. If you flew 125 & 125K in 2009 and 2010
you are DM for 2010 and 2011 AND get 4 choices all DM

If you flew 124k, 126k, in the 2 years, you get PM for 2010 for a few days more than the DM and if you get DM after March 1, holding back 49k and hitting 75k by July, you get to DM and from then you can rollover 50k for next year!
You get 1 PM for 2010, 1 PM for 2011, and 2 DM choices for 2011 AND 50K rollover!
When I look back at the old thread of rollover or not?, I realize the rollover folks may have it right after all.

No, with the rollover you need only 50k more for the PM for 2011

Try telling that to the other half who has planned on giving 2 kids status and me who has planned to trade my gifts away!

2010 Platinum

For now all choices show when I login.

I spoke too soon!
For the other half, only DM choices are available! No PM choices.

But those who rolled a large number of MQM's do have 2011 earned. Today I could pick 3 awards:

2010 DM, 2011 PM and 2011 DM

If I waited and used roll-over MQM's in 2010 and flew the additional 75 k in the first quarter (I did) then I would have picked (today):

2010 PM, 2010 DM, 2011 PM and 2011 DM.

I lose i pick and we asked this exact question of Jeff and he said we would get both 2010 picks.

Edit to add: many posters who held short ARE getting bot picks as reported in this and other threads...

This almost makes sense... except...

let's imagine that on 12/31/2009 I had exactly 125,001 MQM. According to Jeff's earlier posts, I thought that meant I would be able to get the 4 PM SWUs + 6 DM SWUs based on that. Then, once I hit 125,000 MQM for the qualifying year starting 1/1/2010, I would get 6 more SWUs for qualifying for 2011.

So, I would think I would see PM 2010 DM 2010 DM 2011...

I still feel like I'm short 4 SWUs.
