LAX-SLC-BOS

No noticeable difference on either flight. No FAM (At least in F) and no additional security at LAX or SLC.

Turning off moving maps, what a joke.

On a transcon flight, one can reasonably guess when one is over land.

And for the more detail oriented person... GPS will fill the void (as long as you are sitting on a window).

Are they going to turn off GoGo?

FlightStats still has moving maps.

I agree - these new "rules" are a complete and total joke...

Like anyone who is planning on doing anything is going to follow them anyway...

Currently enroute SEA-JFK

No special scans at the airport, no bathroom lockdown onboard and the map operating as usual. A normal Domestic flight. (plus FREE WiFi)

All of the Clt K-9's are bomb sniffers.

Maybe it is about time that DL enhance all their AC to the NW standard and remove all the IFE...

Janet Clueless

Janet Napolinato interviewed today about yesterday's NW/DL incident
"the system worked".

If she means the State Department issuing multi-entry VISAS to the U.S to know people of interest/watch list , young males of Muslim hertitage whose farther calles the State Deprtment to warn us about a potential militant.
If she means LAOS did not detect anything harmful at security,
If she means AMS did not detect anything harmful at security,
If she means we got lucky yesterday as there was not a major explosion

Another clueless politician.

Maybe she was talking about today's incident where another person from Laos was issued a U.S. Visa and checked in with NO luggage.

What WORKED?

My best friend flew LAX-JFK today and said there wasn't anything unusual either at the airport or on-board.

I just flew dtw-dca. Security at dtw was like normal. Tsa set up a few folks to do gate searches before departure, but when I boarded the plan they were just chilling and not searching anyone. It may have just been a show of force and nothing else. Onboard everything was like normal except the captain made no annoucement until we were 20 minutes out or so. Then he just asked us to remain seated for the rest of the flight. Hopefully things continue with the status quo.

Ps I had great service in the air.

Just got off of CVG to BWI. Short flight, one I take virtually every week. No change from normal procedures. Security appeared unchanged from the norm (was very light). No restrictions on movement except for the usual 10 min before/after. WHEW. Happy New Year!

No difference today except they checked ID again past the metal detector at the small regional airport I departed from. ATL was no different today.

Just checked in for the DL 17 LAX-SYD. No restrictions on number of carry on's. TSA was maybe a little more diligent, for instance, they did not want shoes in a bin this time thru. No idea what we will encounter at the gate, but SC is saying a 10:10 call for the flight will be made. My recolleciton is that is a pretty normal time for DL17.

TBIT had a line out the front door and four TV news vans at the curb.

Oh and inbound DL17 form ATL was early.

MEM-DCA

just flew MEM-DCA on NW2198 (can't remember the DL number). Nothing out of the ordinary. There was a bit of a line at the B Concourse checkpoint, but they sent a bunch of us to the A Concourse checkpoint where there was no line. Cleared security in about 5 minutes.

There was a MEM Airport Police officer near the gate (B42) when we were boarding, but he was focused on the AMS flight that was leaving from B43 shortly after us. And that was the same security presence I noticed a month ago on the same flights (the 7ish flight to DCA from B42 and the AMS flight out of B43).
