Silver or Wait?
I need 4300 to get to Silver again (mostly useful for better seats). I have a 16K trip planned in January.
Would it better cost wise to try to get 4300 miles now or 8000 in January/Feb?
I am based out of DTW and am not finding any good fares to get 4300, and can't figure out how to book anything off of Fare Compare. (I posted on this problem in the MR forum.)
Also, I am still unclear on this question: Can I fly a round trip itin inside a round trip itin? In other words, can I book something like DTW-ORL for Tues-Tues and then book ORL-DTW from Tues-Tues?
thanks

Your cutoff to maintain Silver Status is midnight, December 31, 2009. After that point, your EQM counter resets to zero.

As has been said, you must accumulate all your Medallion Qualification Miles by December 31, 2009. On January 1, 2010, everybody (including you) will be back down to 0. If you want Silver, you have to do it this year.
Yes you can "nest" itineraries within an itinerary.

Do it in Jan or Feb
I think U people misunderstand what OP is asking. If I were him I would wait and do a MR before Feb 28, 2010 and he would maintain Silver until Feb, 2012. He said he already has 16000 mile trip planned in Jan and he will still be Silver then so it makes since to me for him to wait and do MR next year early

Personally, I would probably wait. If you get it in January or February, it is pretty much the same benefit for 2010 + it qualifies you for 2011 and provides you that much more toward Gold, should you go for it. Also, we don't know what promos we might see in early 2010 that will help make the 8k more valuable or easier to earn then.

The OP will still be Silver until the end of Feb, as the membership year for 2009 overlaps early 2010. So they get their benefits for the 16k trip they already have planned in Jan, which goes toward the 2010 qualification year. The OP is aware that they will need to fly an additional 8k or so to hit 25k and become Silver in 2010. But, if they do that before the end of Feb, then there is no lapse in benefits.
